Re: Coronavirus Virtual Cruise
Alicante plus Guadalest certainly look as if they are well worth a visit. Some interesting photos.

Re: Coronavirus Virtual Cruise
So, we leave Alicante for our next scheduled port of call - Gibraltar, unless there is a clamour (signified by posting of photos) to call into Malaga.

Re: Coronavirus Virtual Cruise
We were also impressed but not to start with, our first trip caused me to write ...
Alicante - We made a complete a*se of this place. Couldn't find a taxi driver who was able to speak English or else was less than willing to do any sort of journey which was shorter in distance than Madrid. No worries we will go up to the castle instead; maybe not, the lift was broken. Not to be defeated we went to the old town but got completely disorientated and gave up. Bingo we found a friendly taxi driver .... "Take us to the Bullfighting Museum" we requested - Senior(ish), it is twelve fifteen and they close between 1 and 5, maybe you would prefer to walk and save your money. We said Thank you and went back to the ship for a curry and several cold beers.
The moral therefore is to plan your day at this Port and acquire a decent map / travel guide, in spite of that we went again on a Thursday and the Bullring was shut all day

Re: Coronavirus Virtual Cruise
Two of the following pics were taken too many years ago to remember exactly but probably early to mid 70s ...
First up is Nerja near to the spot where the hippies used to make their giant delicious Paella. Then Frigliana, a hilltop village above Nerja with its wonderful Garden Restaurant and a view to die for. Finally part of the garden scene at Granada.

We could do the USA and Canada too. Or come back closer to home and do Iceland, Norway, the Baltic and round Britain. The world is our oyster ( and I can contribute to the thread on most of those places)

Re: Coronavirus Virtual Cruise
Like most people who've done a few cruises, I've been to Gibraltar several times, and have seen changes over the years. When I first visited in 2001 or 2003 (can't quite remember) the land around the port was quite empty, but each time we visit, more and more housing has sprung up.
Our first visit was pre-digital photography, and that was when we the 'Rock' tour. Subsequently, we have always enjoyed a walk, and normally call in at the Trafalgar Cemetery, as it is always nice and peaceful there.

Re: Coronavirus Virtual Cruise
Gibraltar is often the last port of call, so when I sail away from Gibraltar, there's always the sense of the cruise coming to an end.
This picture is from last September, when I was thinking that another cruise is nearly done... and I now reflect that might have been my last 'normal' cruise for some time to come.

Yes Gill, new blocks of flats are springing up all over the place. My favourite place to go to was Debenhams. I know it's sad but we haven't got any big stores on the IOW so a visit to Debenhams was my first port of call.

Re: Coronavirus Virtual Cruise
Enjoying the cruise. By the time I have looked out my photos the ship has set sail to somewhere else. Did you not realise you were leaving this passenger behind on the dockside?
