Britannia, to whom who will she appeal
I wonder to whom she will appeal. Possibly the younger crowd who frequent and enjoy busy venues and arenas. However do they have the disposable income to purchase big ticket cruises or wish to spend that amount of money.
My guess is that the cruise price will be low, the offering will be very basic (i.e buffet dining etc) to attract folk on board in the numbers required.. Extra income will be derived from the all the concessions granted space, KFC etc. Will Primark have the clothing concession? Sunbeds will be available for hire if only to reduce demand to manageable levels. Will an extra £10 a night get you late night adult movies in your cabin. With 750 upper berths she will be able to take enough kids to fill a medium sized comprehensive school.
Can't wait for my first cruise on her

I will give her a go and i will be 64 by then. As long as the casino is of an adequate size and i can get a good nights sleep i will be happy.

Ray, Are you just covering yourself for every eventuality, or do you think that P&O's two tier Vantage/Getaway pricing structure is going to be extended, and will the doors to the posh parts only be accessible for certain classes of passengers?Ray Scully wrote:I wonder to whom she will appeal. Not class, only on ability to pay extra.towny44 wrote:Ray, Are you just covering yourself for every eventuality, or do you think that P&O's two tier Vantage/Getaway pricing structure is going to be extended, and will the doors to the posh parts only be accessible for certain classes of passengers?Ray Scully wrote:I wonder to whom she will appeal. Re: Britannia, to whom who will she appeal
I have visions of it being a Club 18-30 ship.
With hordes of merry cruisers on deck cheering (and a few moonies) as it enters ports.
I wonder if it will do the winter Caribbean season? It will take 14 flights to fill it, so 3 days in Barbados?
If they do charge for sun loungers I can see some of my fellow Scousers helping themselves to their own private chair from the first beach they visit.

A lot of this was said about Ventura! ....
My gripe is they build bigger ships but not bigger doors so the queues getting on and off are long on Azura so what will it be like on this? And...... Doubt tendering will be much fun again long queues .

New build mid sized ships are not economically viable unless they are intended for the premium end of the market. Bigger ships mean lower running costs per passenger and more profits.Sarah62+ wrote:Not for us either, way too big. What's wrong with mid size ships!!!!

Maybe, but the smaller ships can get into ports that the bigger ones can't - which makes them nicer in my opinion. Also if P & O are having to do Getaway prices so early on, then they can't be selling too well then, so smaller ships would be more viable!!!

That is what we would prefer, pay more for a better experience on mid sized ships. A new build along the lines of Aurora, Oriana, or even Arcadia.
Maybe that is why CM got the chop; she said, when she met members of the old P&O forum at the Azura naming, that there would be no more BIG ships. Maybe her words, and the opinions of P&O cruisers, will come back to haunt Carnival on its ever big ship crusade.

Re: Britannia, to whom who will she appeal
The RCI big ships appear to be quite popular with a younger group of cruisers, who perhaps find the P&O offering a little staid and old fashioned for them.

Of course it will, all the P&O oldies will try it at least once and moan about it not being like Canberra or Titanic or something.Dark Knight wrote:we will give it a go

no promenade deck? my experience is a lot of passengers never go anywhere near it, especailly to actually walk around it.
balcony too small? my experience is a lot of passangers never seem to be on their balconies. Anyway us oldies would prefer a chair to sit on rather than a lounger with associated hoist to get back upright.

Re: Britannia, to whom who will she appeal
That is what the likes of Oceania, Regent, Silversea etc are for, and they have several new builds in their fleets, or if you do not want 6* prices there is always HAL or the smaller Cunard Queens, not to mention the 4 mid size P&O ships.wolfie wrote:davecttr wrote:New build mid sized ships are not economically viable unless they are intended for the premium end of the market. But I doubt there will be many new mid size ships built for the mass market lines like Princess, RCCL, Carnival,Celebrity and P&O etc, simply because at their pricing structure the smaller ships can never be economic.

Well if this is the future of cruising. Stack 'em high and fill 'em cheap. I think we'll be giving up on this type of holiday.

Re: Britannia, to whom who will she appeal
I've recently been reading some good things about Azamara, emjay. If P&O are really going down the big ship, lower end of the market route, aiming at the "I'll do what I want and it's got nothing to do with you" type of customer, then why not give Azamara or Oceania a go before you give up entirely.emjay45 wrote:Well if this is the future of cruising. I have looked at Azamara before Kaymar. Unfortunately like a lot of companies they don’t seem to do round trips from Southampton. This is a real problem for us now as my son will no longer entertain flying because of his claustrophobia.kaymar wrote:I've recently been reading some good things about Azamara, emjay. I'll be interested to hear about your experience with them though when you've had your cruise.
