Invitation to Britannia's naming ceremony

#1

Post by Jan Rosser »

I notice that many of you have been to naming ceremonies of P&O ships and indeed David was invited to the 175th anniversary celebrations too - does anyone know how you get an invite? Are names put in a hat or are there other criteria P&O use?

There are several ways that invitations are issued but, basically, it is at P&O's discretion.

Apart from the "high and mighty" who get invited due to the position that they hold there have in the past been a number of invitations sent to the major cruise travel agents for them do with as they wish.

The members of the old P&O Cruise Community that were invited was based on the number of posts made during a specified period (which was not known about in advance)

The other group that get invitations are/were the top tier of the loyalty club at the time.

How invitations will be issued for Britannia is anyone's guess.

Often you can book a place on a tour of the ship pre launch, it's pot luck what time and day you get left you select toe options etc...again a screams of unfair will be heard.....but as said before for the ceremony the top tier folk , TAs and local dignatriees go...one yr the top ten posters on the P&O forum went , and there were massive moans.... Then people started to just post non stop in the hope to get an invite again in future.

You would not like it QB - not only is the evening formal but if the actual naming is during the day then that becomes "daytime formal" which, for gentlemen, requires a suit and tie. Also to add to your woes there is no alternative dining

Ouch! I haven't worn a tie in years (except for those bow things on formal nights). I thought this ship was aimed at the 'more casual' classes? Anyway, I don't have a tattoo either so it's probably not intended for me :)

Don't know when it will be, but if anyone from P&O's hierarchy is reading in then I would like to point out that I am available again.

Don't think you'll get an invite now you've deserted to Sleazy Cruise.

Of course it they ever buy a new ship ("new" as in the sense of just built, not just new to them after half a dozen previous careful owners over the last forty years) I'm sure you'll be on the guest list. :sarcasm:
