Smokehouse on QM2

#1

Post by Boris+ »

Has anyone been to the Smokehouse on QM2, and if so, roughly what is on offer?

I've tried (briefly) to find out stuff on the internet, but no luck so far.

Cheers.

For a minute there I thought you were starting a smoking thread Em :o

I can't say I'd heard of the Smokehouse but I have found this.

Queen Mary 2

The Verandah - Contemporary French Inspired Cuisine
Lunch Menu - $20 per person - 3 course menu
Dinner Menu - $49.95 per person - 3 course menu

Kings Court - Buffet style dining throughout the day and into the evening. In addition an area of this restaurant becomes a speciality dining area with table service.

Aztec (Mexican cuisine) $17.50pp
Bamboo (Pan-Asian cuisine) - $17.50pp
Coriander (Indian cuisine) - $17.50pp
La Piazza (Italian cuisine) - $17.50pp
Smokehouse (American cuisine) - $17.50pp

Evening buffet (non themed) - Complimentary

It appears it is one of the speciality dining areas in Kings Court and would guess from the description it will be burgers/steaks.

Thanks Jo. All I can find out is pretty much what you have too. I can see that Carinthia has changed - and that it now replaces the Winter Garden.

Thanks again.

The Carinthia Lounge is extremely popular and we are looking forward to sampling what is now on offer - next month.

We've never bothered much with Carinthia - we'll also have a look and see what is on offer there nowadays.

Well it wasn't Carinthia, it was the Winter Garden which was a lovely venue, seldom used except for the ubiquitous Art Auctions and the occasional Grill's Party. It now has a splendid array of tasty bites suitable for breakfast and/or lunch. Tea too I imagine, though I'm not sure about the evenings.

We're looking forward to it.

We didn't bother much with Carinthia (but we had a friend who was virtually addicted to it), and we haven't bothered much with the Winter Garden - except as somewhere to walk through en route from one place to another, and the odd Grills party.

Anyway - have a really lovely time when you go.

I must be particularly stupid Em, but I don't actually recall where Cafe Corninthia was on QM2, I must have missed it on all our trips. Can you remind me?

I was referring to all our Cunard outings - and we had a friend who habitually used to go to Carinthia to have 'biscotti' instead of a more normal sort of breakfast. Any excuse, and she'd be off down to Carinthia.

Sorry if I got mixed up - got my mind on something else at the moment, and anyway, it feels ages since we've been on a Cunard ship. I suppose people who always frequent the different bars and coffee places on ships know the names of those venues, but as we usually don't then we tend to not attach much importance to the names. It'll be interesting anyway to see the changes on QM2, anyway.

Have a great time.

No you haven't missed anything Gill there definitely wasn't a Cafe Carinthia prior to the QM2 re-mastering.

I've just had a look on the Cunard website, trying to get my brain into cruising mode - and according to Cunard there is now a Carinthia on QM2.

Whatever! We'll know soon enough. All I've got to do is extract my stuff for short cruise packing from the other bigger packing, and head for Southampton.

Yes there is a Cafe Carinthia now since the re-mastering, as Gill has said in what was the Winter Garden.

Have you booked another cruise Em, I thought you'd said you had booked Xmas but maybe I misunderstood.

That's a nice idea - as and when we are on QM2 at the same time. The Concierge on Deck 9 is handy and cosy - if it's still there and providing the same service, and usually not too noisy.

So, it's been a great outing, shame it has to end.

We love the new decor, and the menus have been changed too. The King's Court is lovely, everything is lovely, and we noticed a definite improvement in staff attitude on the ship.

Sorry I missed you Gill, I did look for you - but there's still tonight to go. I think that our highlight was maybe seeing a group- of women (British) who belong to the Red Hat Society - and they appear to be havin a grand old time too.

Right then, initial packing done (wasn't much to pack in the first place).

We've enjoyed ourselves so much we've booked another Cunard cruise - on QV.

Really glad we did this brief trip - and the bonus is that it was smooth going all the way - so far!

Once again, apologies Gill, hope you enjoyed yourself as much as we have.

So Em what is on offer in the Smokehouse and do you know if it is something they are planning to roll out on all the ships, I would also be interested to know if they have reduced the a la carte menu in QG, I read a while ago ( on cruise critic I think ) that this was the intention so it would be interesting to know what has been cut back on.

Oh I do hope you bump into Gill, she and Tony are lovely.

Hi Jo,

No sign of Gill, and we didn't make it into Smokehouse - it wasn't available during our brief cruise.
The a la carte has been curtailed a bit - I can see 5 appetisers (jumbo shrimp, caesar salad, salmon, snails or chicken and leek terrine.
Mains - Chicken or sirloin, or fillet of salmon.

The only time we didn't really fancy what was on offer was lunch today, so we went to the Kings Court, and it was very nice indeed .

We are very happy with what has been on offer, so we'll come again!

Shame we missed Gill - so long as she is ok and has had a good time that's all that matters.

Just about to leave Zeebrugge for Sou - almost over, but very nice.
