Spa

#1

Post by Boris+ »

In what I am going to loosely call the 'Spa' (especially on QM2) - apart from treatments what on earth is there to do? Would I get bored (I'm not the sort of person to lounge around and sun bathe all day long)?

When I used to go to a Spa on terra firma I would go in and relax, have a treatment and then relax, have a jolly good swim, chat in the bubbly pool, swim and out. Obviously on a ship (but in my case on a Cunarder) there isn't the space to create the facility which I used to go to on dry land, and I can recall people lounging around in a bubbly pool thing on Arcadia - but can anyone tell me if it's worth it?

I particularly like the Spa area on QM2. Al those lovely foot spas, the indoor pool with its swan neck jets, the comfy loungers, the steam rooms, etc - one of the best I think.

Have you actually checked the Spa out on QM2 Em .. I think you will find it is probably the largest spa at sea, although it is possible one of the 'huge monsters' may have exceeded it now.

Taken from Cunard's website.

Experience an ocean of pleasure. The 20,000-square-foot Canyon Ranch SpaClub® is the largest spa afloat. It’s located on two decks and features 24 massage, body and skincare treatment rooms, including two rooms for couples treatments, extensive weight-training and cardio center, coed relaxation lounge, beautifully appointed locker rooms, Thermal Suite and full-service Salon with dazzling wraparound ocean views.

The SpaClub® features an Aqua Therapy Centre with a full range of rejuvenating aquathermal environments including:

Thalassotherapy pool with airbed recliner lounges
Neck fountains
Deluge waterfall
Air tub and body massage jet benches
Whirlpool
Thermal Suite with herbal and Finnish saunas
Aromatic steam room
In addition to the spa, salon and fitness services, SpaClub® offers exercise and wellness, nutrition and personal training.

Enjoy SpaClub® facilities with the purchase of a daily Passport, which covers use of the Aqua Therapy Centre, relaxation lounge, locker rooms, Fitness Centre and your choice of daily fitness classes. We provide robes, slippers and complimentary beverages in the relaxation lounge.

I think there's something there to suit just about anyone

Hi Gill and Jo,

Many thanks for both replying. I've seen some of the blurb on the Cunard website, and just wondered if it's worth it, that's all (given that it is on a ship - even though it is QM2 - and not set in rolling acres of countryside).

I've never been in a Spa onboard ship, it's on my list of things to do - like going to the casino, never done that either. The only other thing which bothers me is getting stuck in a relatively confined space with a blasted cruise bore right next to me, when all I want to do is doze.

On a cruise last year we had this couple who had their own 'personal music' headset things, and no matter where we sat on the Grills terrace, they just had to sit next to us (even though loads of other seats available), and just as we starting relaxing they would start singing (badly) with their 'personal music'. It did get sorted, but not until near the end of the cruise (and it was quite amusing when it did get sorted).

Anyway, I have this vision of going in the Spa and either getting bored or lumbered with a bore!

How unpleasant, we must have been lucky - or maybe you were unlucky - but we haven't found it a problem, particularly in the Spa, where most people seem to want to relax just like us. I do agree the tinny sound from iPods etc can be a little annoying when set to a high volume, but I have never experienced someone singing along

Give the Spa a try, you might enjoy it - we certainly do.

Hi Gill,

I might give it a try - we usually get onboard and go straight up to our suite - and then down to lunch and then chill out. I think that this time if they are doing any introductory tours of the Spa we might well have a look. We've previously ambled through the Spa on our way to muster station (and for muster station A we always try to be early to get a seat).

Fingers crossed!

Hi Em

On our first voyage, we spent nearly a whole day in the QM2 spa and plan on doing so again in October. It's a wonderful experience - and that's without treatments. You can get dressed, go for lunch and go back in again. And it's a lot cheaper than the Bath Spa

Hi Alan,

Well, I've been for Spa visits on terra firma, but then it's been fitted in between other things, and there's been no time to loiter. I might find time to actually get around to going to a spa onboard - but first of all I'll need to explore what the facilities are like on different ships.
