Loyalty programs
We have had 1 cruise with Princess and many with P&O (can't remember how many).
The curious thing is that we have only achieved Mediterranean status with P&O but we are in the 'Elite' tier with Princess ???

Re: Loyalty programs
Depending on when you signed up to the Princess loyalty club then your P&O points may have been carried across.
You need to do at least 201 nights to get out of the Mediterranean tier - I know it seems to take an eternity unless you can get a couple of long cruises in (25+ nights)

The tier perks on P&O are really not worth worrying about

We must be inbetweeners - we get 8.5% with P&O.
Apart from that though I agree with midlandslass, not much else to get excited about.

Re: Loyalty programs
As a shareholder, and also someone who takes the maximum OBC when booking, we tend to find that our final on board invoice is never very high, so the 10% discount is a mere pittance. So I would much prefer to have some free wi fi time, or some free drinks instead.

Not any more - that stopped quite a few years ago.
Could you explain that to my wife please as that appears to be concept that she is unable to grasp

Re: Loyalty programs
We fall into the 8.5% discount category which is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
A glass of bubbly and that’s about it.
I also get the extra obc as a shareholder which is nice.
Somehow, we still usually end up with a sizeable bill at the end.
Mrs B blames my drinking and I blame her treatments.
Whatever, we go on holiday to enjoy ourselves, not to count coppers.
If I die with a few hundred quid less in the bank, then hey ho!

Re: Loyalty programs
We too went straight to Elite in our first Princess cruise on the strength of our previous P&O cruises. They no longer credit P&O trips but continue to honour loyalty already earned by that route.

They must have changed the credit rules sometime after 2015.
Curiously of all our cruises on various Carnival brands the only one that has not added any points to partner loyalty tiers has been our cruise with Carnival itself.

Re: Loyalty programs
Did you join Carnivals loyalty scheme, and link it to your Princess and P&O scheme?

Re: Loyalty programs
A very interesting question, our Carnival cruise was in 1998 and I did join their loyalty program ... I thought it was linked to our P&O account and there is something in the back of my mind though that points were not reciprocal. Still wouldn't be enough to get me into Caribbean tier though

Re: Loyalty programs
At one time P&O gave, I think, half points for Princess cruises, when they were merged as P&O/Princess before the Carnival days. P&O stopped recognising Princess before vice versa.

Re: Loyalty programs
I think that answers your question, Carnival did not take over P&O until 2003, so presumably they would not have been linked until then.Kendhni wrote: ↑14 Jul 2021, 20:26A very interesting question, our Carnival cruise was in 1998 and I did join their loyalty program ... Re: Loyalty programs
I didn’t know there was a 8.5%. I always thought it went from 7.5% to 10. You learn something every daybarney wrote: ↑14 Jul 2021, 14:47We fall into the 8.5% discount category which is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Re: Loyalty programs
We also attract the 8.5% reduction but never had any aspirations of climbing the Tier ladder because we split our holidays between Sea and Riverboat Cruising plus Coaching Tours. Being locked in to P&O simply did not appeal to us but I can accept that others do things differently.
The system that got my vote was Celebrity, we booked a Concierge Grade cabin and had virtually all the perks going even though this was our one and only cruise with them. Booking a cabin grade rather than collecting Green Shield Stamps to get extra perks makes good sense to me because going forward I doubt the majority of passengers will stick to any one Brand for their lifetime.

Keep smiling, it's good for your well being
