Re: Last One to Post Wins
Might be my last post for a while, unless we find free wi-fi, so I will be in the lead until I return.

No, it's something you blow into one end and get a lot of noise from the other

Re: Last One to Post Wins
Morning all, we spent over 2 hours on the section of the M40 from junctions 10 to 9 yesterday as the inside lane for the A34 ground to a halt. Once, exceedingly slowly, past this interchange there was over 10 miles of queing traffic on the northbound A34 that we passed and had built up as a result. I hope this is not repeated today for anyone travalling down without an over night.
The worst traffic jam we have ever experienced, and nothing to indicate why as we crawked along.

Sadly, that's pretty normal around these parts! It also affected my voyage home as the "knock-on effect" clogged up all the minor roads around which I have to use.towny44 wrote: ↑29 Sep 2017, 08:26Morning all, we spent over 2 hours on the section of the M40 from junctions 10 to 9 yesterday as the inside lane for the A34 ground to a halt. Should be OK today as yesterday's problems were caused by a crash on the M40 between 9 and 10 requiring barrier repairs

Re: Last One to Post Wins
The last time we travelled to a cruise on the day there was an accident on the A34 at it's junction with the M4. Because it is extra wide there it didn't cause any significant problems. Until they closed it as we approached, for recovery work! Luckily as the queue built up we were just able to slip off to join the M4, on which we headed towards London before cutting across country to join the M3.
We were an hour and a half later than planned but still made our cruise. Had we approached the M4 a few minutes later we wouldn't have been able to get off the A34 and would have missed the boat!
We've gone the day before ever since.

Spoke too soon - the A34 is currently closed in two places between M40 J9 and M4. 2 hours' delay at each so pity any poor soul heading that way to Southampton. Good move by FK travelling down yesterday

Same here Merv, we also go the day before. But, it looks like we may well be travelling down the same day this time. The two places we would normally book months in advance outside of Southampton have increased they're prices to silly money. I'm hoping for a last minute deal otherwise an early start on the day. Fortunately it's a Sunday boarding so fingers crossed traffic should be fairly light that time of the morning.

Sunday's usually fine. We did come unstuck once when it snowed solidly from Friday night until Sunday morning but you should be OK in October !!

Have just finished doing the packing for our cruise, we fly down tomorrow after checking our dog into kennels.
We always go the day before and stay in a hotel in Southampton overnight, takes some of the pressure off. Used to leave early on the day when we lived near Bedford and one time nearly missed our flight for the Caribbean. Lesson has been learned
