Awful smell oboard

#1

Post by dadstaxi »

Can anyone tell me what the awful smell on board Azura (24/01-07/02) was. It was more noticeable on the open deck, but could be smelled in the corridors, at some times during the day. It was like an open sewer at times.

Lots of comments on CC and facebook, it's a long standing sewage smell, the more complaints that are made direct to the P&O CEO, the more chance it might be fixed in the upcoming refit.

Not guilty you cheeky s*d.

I'm not on board until end of May after the refit so hopefully all will be fixed.........or there will be hell to pay. I'm printing off a supply of compo forms as we speak.

Save me one, Stephen as I go on Azura before you. I will try very hard not to add to the sewage smell.

There really would be a case for compo if after the refit the smell persists.

Where about is the smell? will be on board at the beginning of March. I will give it a sniff and report back unless someone reports before.
Did have a similar problem in the piano lounge on Arcadia, Starboard side.
Don't worry, be happy

It's reported to be midships and is noticeable on the Prom Deck near to Malabar, but also can be noticed midships on the passenger cabin decks, not sure which side, but Facecloth or CC has plenty of posts about it.

Ray, I haven't been on Azura before but have read quite a few reviews which refer to the awful smell and Prom deck midships has been mentioned and also Malabar. Recent Caribbean cruises on Azura which were originally due to visit St Vincent have been changed to Martinique as I understand that island has the facilities for emptying the human waste tank.

You can be the guinea pig to try to find the source of the smell. Have a good holiday.

PS Looks like towny has beat me to it with the reply.

Last trip we were mid ships starboard side and smelled nothing in cabin or corridor. There was occasional niff as others have reported around Malabar and prom deck at that point.

We were R deck last time. Unmissable suite deal. But you're in our usual spot.

Funny this happens on Azura but not on the near identical Ventura or the similar Princess ships. You'd think the engineers would have found the cause by now

I will put the old schnozzel to work, be going around the decks like a bloodhound. We are mid Aft on C deck Port, first two weeks, and then mid forward on C deck Starboard the following two weeks (left it to late for b2b cabin). I have a deerstalker hat in the wardrobe, just need a pipe and we're away.

Don't forget to re-trace your steps from time to time to ensure the smell isn't coming from behind you … just a thought :shh:

O K, I put the sniffer to work and this is all I can report.
The smell is still there, but not all the time, in fact most of the last two weeks before they stopped cruises, there was no smell (that I could detect) at all.
It seems to me that it is at its strongest just Aft of midships on the port side. This was apparent when in port, when returning to the ship, it didn't arf pong on the quay.
I have a feeling that there may be a vent or a pump out connection in one of those round holes in the side of the ship where it is (the smell) coming from.
I did detect a whiff on port prom deck but nothing inside the ship, but it is possible if a cabin has the balcony door open. I was on port C deck, so again other decks which I did not patrol, may smell if balcony door is open.
Summary, smell still there, case closed.
Don't worry, be happy

Hopefully all will be fixed when she goes in for her refit, which according to P&O is still going ahead as scheduled.

Ray - thank you for doing the sniff test for us. We have cancelled our cruise on 19th April (even though PO haven't cancelled as yet) so I will never find out how bad it is, thank goodness.

Plenty of time to fix the pong now. Probably just need a giant sink plunger.

The problem will now be the awful musty smell from the ships being unused for several months, which will probably take several cruises before it disappears.
