PO tips increase

#1

Post by Kenmo1 »

We have just received an email regarding our cruise that tips, or as PO call it service reward programme, are increasing to £6 per person with effect from 27th March 2017.

Boo, hiss.

Haven't received that one yet but I don't begrudge paying £6 and it's still less than many lines

I agree, qbman. Princess are a fair bit more.

We always leave the automatic gratuities on and it will come out of our OBC on this cruise, so not a problem for us but I just hope it doesn't go to the butler who is listed on the notification because he/she never comes to see us in our inside cabin, I can't think why not.

Sorry, but isn't that what they're paid for.

We always knock off auto tipping. Dont agree with it. We'll tip at our discretion, not P&O's.

A number of people had an email saying it has gone up to $6. I will take that that seems fair.

Dai - I think I had better get my eyes tested as I admit, now that I've re read the original email, it does say $6 but that has been quickly followed up by an amended e mail. We have 2 cruises booked, each causing an original email to be issued and followed by an amendment. I should think that, with all the cruises you have booked, your e-mail box must be full by now.

PS I have sympathy with the families with children aged 12 and over.

so a family of 4 for 14 nights pays £336.00 on auto tipping I think that is too much, sorry if that upsets some, but it is a big difference to £168 for two people.

£336 for 4 is not at all excessive, sorry about that, but if it is then either don't take the kids on a cruise else take a holiday in a Welsh cottage like wot we did.

P&O staff will have to work hard for the mess all four of you make surely, so they therefore deserve the tip from the four of you regardless of the final total.

Out of interest Celebrity would charge up to three times that amount on their cruises.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Would you be happier with the base fares being increased by £84pp?

Sorry but this a nonsense. Increase OBC so it pays for increased tips and everyone is happy!
Come on people - OBC is a marketing tool. If we were to have a proper fare without marketing extras and a proper salary paid to staff then we could all see what we are really paying - and crew are properly remunerated. The present system is barking mad and needs urgent change.

It makes little or no difference - OBC is your money anyway (except shareholder), so whether you pay it in advance in the fare as OBC or pay it later in cash you are still paying it.

I fear that a high percentage of British cruisers find the level of tipping challenging, and don't tip to the recommended
amount. Therefore I would suggest that the price hike is to reflect the shortfall. i.e those who pay up can be screwed for a little more. I think that to get the same return with the tip included in the selling price P&O would not have to increase prices by £6.00 a day

Well! David The amount of OBC and Shareholders benefit we have received recently has been difficult to spend onboard, hence my statement

That's us Maureen! Me, husband and 4 kids going at Easter adds another £500!! We may have to rethink a couple of the kids!

Just received my e-mails from my TA for my 2 Azura cruises, one in May the other in Sept 2018, they must be issuing these alphabetically, by ship, as my 2 Ventura cruises in between these dates are still to arrive.
Only a badly run organisation would decide not to issue these e-mails in chronological order.

I was very sorry to see your flippant comments and I am alright jack attitude regarding this matter not everybody can afford to throw money around but some have to save very hard to get there money, some people we know have a disabled son who they try to take with them the wife cannot work as she is his career and the husband does not have a brilliant job but they save like hell because they love cruising to all be able to go, she readily admits that she pays £20 each for her and her husband and nothing for her boy as she just can't afford it,
so if you want to tell that sort of person to get a cottage in wales all I can say is that I would rather meet people like that on holiday than self satisfied people like you.

Yes John any know at P&O will do that's two posts and two knocks. Not bad. You are not forced to book with them.

BTW I have not had any email at all so my tips must still be £5.50.

Still about half the price of Princess or the ever so special Celebrity.
