Trouble with P&O and Edge Browser

#1

Post by Mervyn and Trish »

Is anyone else having trouble with the P&O site using the Edge browser since the latest Windows 10 update?

I can search for a cruise and get the overview but when I click on any of the other tabs, such as itinerary or pricing, it just rolls up the screen and then nothing.

It works fine with Firefox and the Cunard site works fine with Edge.

I've tried the usual thing of clearing caches etc.

The update did, in usual Microsoft fashion, throw up another issue - like it wouldn't work with my bank account security software, but it's odd it works with Cunard and not P&O.

My advice - dump Edge, it is totally useless and non standard (typical Microsoft!)

Yes I get the same thing I have to revert back to Internet Explorer if I want to view anything. Hopefully will be sorted out in a future update as, apart from this, I find Edge fine.

I agree with both Davids.

Yes typical Microsoft David63. The problem with Rapport, the security that comes with my online account, was also typical. Worked fine up to the upgrade then Edge just wouldn't load. Microsoft said it's because its security has been increased and it doesn't trust third party programmes. The only solution was to turn off Rapport, rather than a mechanism to tell Edge it was okay. They promise me Windows 10 security will cover the on line banking. I wonder if they'll reimburse me if my account gets raided? I think we all know the answer. My computer, my choice Microsoft!

But yes daveoc14, Edge was working fine for me before the upgrade - and actually before Windows 10 came along I was having regular nightmares with Explorer. I'm convinced they were bugs deliberately inserted to force me to adopt W10!

Hi M&T, just tried it and I am having the same problem as yourself with Edge - sloppy programming and/or QA for a modern program to be released without support for the latest browsers. I would also suggest installing Chrome - it is my 'go to' browser for 99% of my work.

I think it's the other way round Ken. P&O site worked perfectly on Edge until Edge updated. The sloppiness seems to be Miscrosoft have updated without checking it had the functionality of its earlier version. Hence the problems with not just P&O, but with the issue I had with Rapport. But I agree. Sloppy.

I have Chrome too as an alternative thanks.

Chrome is my browser of choice, mainly because it links in with my tablet and phone and I have my photos across them all.

Nothing wrong with Windows 10, it works far better on my pc than the old Windows 7 did; and you can ignore the bits you don't like.

Not necessarily Ken.

Edge, form its initial release, has lacked some basic functionality that are "standard" features of other browsers and, as a consequence, web developers have had to create "fixes" within their code to cater for this. If MS then come along and change things again it becomes a game of catch up. Arguably it is not "sloppy" programming but is actually the opposite - trying to cater for everyone.

Incidentally the same thing has applied with IE for years so it is nothing new.

Being totally ignorant I haven't the slightest idea what Edge is! However, I usually use Google Chrome. I do, however, have a problem with some things on the P&O website. I was trying to access the Aurora Virtual Tours - couldn't do it. I thought how useless to advertise the ability to see the Virtual Tours and then the link doesn't work. I was going to tell P&O what I thought when suddenly I had a thought. I went to Internet Explorer and although it was incredibly slow I could access the Virtual Tour. I've got no idea what the problem is, maybe someone else can tell me, as well as what is Edge?

I can't get on with Chrome and definitely not Edge so I'm a Firefox fan. It's not without its own little foibles but at least I can easily find my way around it.

I'm happy with Edge when it works properly, use Chrome on my tablet and phone, but Firefox is my fall back when all else fails.

I used Firefox for ages without any problems until about 12 months ago it suddenly started freezing on me, which needed a restart to get going again. Tried everyhting to cure it but in the end I had to try an alternative, which is when I changed to Chrome.
