Worst than the Noro.? Stuck on board with Coronavirus
As if it wasn't bad enough being stuck on a ship with the Noro reported, I should think that there are a lot of worried cruisers on board the Diamond Princess with the reported ten passengers testing positive for the Corona Virus.
I wish them the best, but they are stuck with it like the crew as well.

And the World Dream is quarantined in Hong Kong, with three passengers confirmed with it.
We are hoping ours next month is cancelled as we do not want to travel now.

There will be a few more like you Gill.
Cruise lines must be reviewing their position on this matter.

I really feel for Cunard/P&O/Princess etc etc but having booked our own flights and hotels, most of which are non-refundable, because we are visiting family before and after, we can’t just reschedule everything overnight.
And yes Lindsey, there are loads in the same position. Tony has said unless the situation has dramatically improved - unlikely - we’ll cancel everything whatever. But it’ll be at a massive cost.

How awful if you're travelling alone, with someone who has already worn a little thin, or in an inside cabin.

Re: Worst than the Noro.? Stuck on board with Coronavirus
There was a Princess Diamond passenger on BBC's Breakfast show this morning. He has a balcony and is very relieved that he hadn't booked an inside cabin. All the food was being delivered to their cabin but it was, he said, basic rather than the usual cruise fare.
He was expecting to be going home next Tuesday but has cancelled the flight and will be staying on board for 14 days.
Two days confined to the cabin with Noro was enough for me so it will doubtless be very tough going for a fortnight.

That doesn't bode too well for the next few cruises, all of them in inside cabins.Manoverboard wrote: ↑05 Feb 2020, 13:25wo days confined to the cabin with Noro was enough for me so it will doubtless be very tough going for a fortnight.
Don't panic Mr Mannering ( or in my case Mrs Mannering ).

We watched, presumably, the same DP passenger on the lunchtime news, I wonder if they are offering a bar service, or allowing free access to the mini bar for the 14 days of quarantine?

It will …. providing they have, or can get, enough pills / supplies / needles etc to see them through the extra time spent on board.

I read elsewhere that there is no smoking - obviously - and no alcohol either.

Arcadia is due to arrive in the area at the end of the month. Any news of Port changes.?
For a lot of passengers on Arcadia it will be a major disappointment, that this situation, which has developed, could mean they miss a once in a lifetime chance to visit such wonderful places.

If there are too many port changes then they can cancel citing clause 40, like wot we did, and get a full refund … all being well they can go next year ideally armed with a pile of compo.

I read on CC the other day that someone suggested that the ship misses all the ports and comes straight back home!

Moby, I think clause 43 may come into play.
I think PANDO are working behind the scenes to mitigate the changes, I hope so any how.

Some passengers will sail, on Arcadia, from Hong Kong to Southampton and it is possible that as China and Malaysia have Virus victims in their regions these 5 ports could be dropped at the eleventh hour.david63 wrote: ↑05 Feb 2020, 14:54But that would not work if they are already on board doing the WorldieManoverboard wrote: ↑05 Feb 2020, 14:45If there are too many port changes then they can cancel citing clause 40, like wot we did, and get a full refund … all being well they can go next year ideally armed with a pile of compo.

Then they'll come home and catch flu! Which has killed many more people in the UK alone this year than Coronavirus has worldwide, despite there being a vaccine available.

Re: Worst than the Noro.? Stuck on board with Coronavirus
Just found this on the web site, not sure when it went up.
We are continually assessing the impact of travel restrictions caused by the coronavirus outbreak in mainland China.
We also continue to manage the health implications and, although the risk of coronavirus for our guests and crew is very low, we are closely monitoring the situation. Our medical experts are coordinating closely with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to implement control measures for our ships.
As part of these measures guests and crew who have visited mainland China (including Hubei Province) within the last 14 days will not be permitted to board our ships.
Also pre-boarding screening will be conducted for all guests, crew and visitors in all embarkation ports with further medical evaluation if necessary . All guests and crew who visit our onboard Medical Centre with symptoms of any respiratory illness will be risk assessed for coronavirus and action taken as necessary.
Additional proactive environmental disinfection routines will be performed onboard in accordance with our regular stringent cleaning and sanitation protocols.

Re: Worst than the Noro.? Stuck on board with Coronavirus
Nobody seems to have taken onboard that recording temperatures is of no use if a passenger is in the early stages of infection and asymptomatic - but still infectious. So easy to slip through the net.

Hopefully everyone will be expected to use hand sanitisers. If anyone refuses then entry to the restaurant or buffet should be refused.
A total nightmare for the people in quarantine on the ships. More so if stuck in an inside cabin or sea view without any fresh air.

The hand sanitisers are anti-bacterial and ineffective against viruses.Finker wrote: ↑05 Feb 2020, 20:34Hopefully everyone will be expected to use hand sanitisers. If anyone refuses then entry to the restaurant or buffet should be refused.

On Diamond Princess food is only being consumed in the cabins.Finker wrote: ↑05 Feb 2020, 20:34Hopefully everyone will be expected to use hand sanitisers. If anyone refuses then entry to the restaurant or buffet should be refused.

Re: Worst than the Noro.? Stuck on board with Coronavirus
what is the insurance situation
if
a)the foreign office advises not to travel
b) you decide not to take the risk
c)P&O cancel/reschedule
d) what about your extraneous expenses - like Gill who was intent on visiting family at the same time.
presumably each scenario has different implications?
