Re: Worst than the Noro.? Stuck on board with Coronavirus
Regarding the 19 crew members … were they transferred from Diamond Princess I wondered ?
In our area I haven't spotted the reporting of any cases so I am relaxed about it all at the moment but that could change if the situation worsens as predicted. There will be many on here who are at greater risk themselves or are in general contact with people who have respiratory problems and with this thought in mind I am with Barney on this one when faced with the quandary of staying in / going out to crowded places.
Having said that we went to Sainsbugs yesterday and noted that the shelves earmarked for kitchen rolls / tissues / toilet rolls / Carex products etc were completely empty … it doesn't usually happen on a Friday so I concluded that the well healed of Sherborne are already in a state of panic.
ps … I'm glad it worked out well for Merv and his overseas friends

So what's the significance?........They are all in the same boat as far as coronaviruses is concerned.towny44 wrote: ↑07 Mar 2020, 10:54I can think of several, the crews quarters are much more cramped than passengers, leading to closer contact. Most crew are still working to provide the hotel service, so the spread of the virus among them is higher, and of course they are preparing and handling food for everyone on board.Onelife wrote: ↑07 Mar 2020, 10:44I fail to understand the significance as to whether they were crew or not?oldbluefox wrote: ↑07 Mar 2020, 09:45
There was a report this morning saying that the greater majority of those were crew members.
There was an excellent interview on BBC with the Deputy Director of Health (?) who cautioned against panic and put the whole situation in perspective. She also cautioned against panic buying. There is no need for it and only creates a problem where none should exist. I understand the concerns of those who have partners, relatives etc who have pre-existing conditions who need to be extra careful but it does no good spreading panic amongst the population. We saw enough of that with Brexit which merely frightens people. Stay calm and do as you are told.

That's the problem, they are in the same boat and possibly coughing over the food as they prepare it, and over your plated dinner. Any crew or passenger with symptoms should be offloaded to an isolation hospital at the next port, and only when those with symptoms reach a critical point should quarantine be considered, and then only until safe evacuation back to your own home for self isolation can be arranged.Onelife wrote: ↑07 Mar 2020, 11:15So what's the significance?........They are all in the same boat as far as coronavirus is concerned.towny44 wrote: ↑07 Mar 2020, 10:54I can think of several, the crews quarters are much more cramped than passengers, leading to closer contact. The problem being John,....if Boris were to put you in control you or gawd almighty ain't going to off load the infected if ports won't allow them off ship... as is the case with MSC wanting to off load in Valletta.towny44 wrote: ↑07 Mar 2020, 13:22I assume that was to be a standard call, you clearly did not read and understand my post, which if followed carefully should satisfy all but the worst scaredycatt.Onelife wrote: ↑07 Mar 2020, 12:22I refer you to post 248towny44 wrote: ↑07 Mar 2020, 11:46

That's probably why they have plenty left.
We get ours elsewhere. Or rather we send the staff for it.

So we had a good result cancelling our Cunard cruise.
Tomorrow we fly to Madeira confident that they have no cases so far.
Last night they had an earthquake!
