Re: Worst than the Noro.? Stuck on board with Coronavirus
We travelled umpteen times over many years with folk from all over the English speaking world on coaching tours and the topic cropped up frequently. This was because our coffee / lunch stops would often coincide with the loos being cleaned at the chosen venue.
The ladies therefore had to use the Gents facilities and they, to a man , would comment on how clean and lacking in graffiti ours were compared to their own … just saying

That’s because they can use both hands.Manoverboard wrote: ↑10 Mar 2020, 15:19We travelled umpteen times over many years with folk from all over the English speaking world on coaching tours and the topic cropped up frequently. I'm bored with toilet rolls now. I've decided to start panic buying marmalade.

Re: Worst than the Noro.? Stuck on board with Coronavirus
We had an email today from P&O advising that the cancellation fee of £2.4k charged two weeks ago has now been turned into a FCC on any new cruise in the next two years. Full marks to them.kaymar wrote: ↑27 Feb 2020, 22:32Decision made. We've cancelled and accepted a refund of 50% - £2,350. The cost of peace of mindkaymar wrote: ↑26 Feb 2020, 10:06Exactly the questions we have been asking ourselves, Keith (among many others!). We booked through Bolsover and they advise leaving cancellation until the last minute to get back 50% as P&O are said to be "looking at" this cruise (J003) with a view to amendment or cancellation. Would we want a different itinerary? The way things are going, not sure that there is a "safe" one that we would be attracted to.Onelife wrote: ↑26 Feb 2020, 08:30Hi Keith,
Others may be able to advise better but l would check with your travel agent as to whether you'd still be entitled to a full refund (after having cancelled your cruise yourself) should your cruise be canceled by the Cruise line at a latter date.
Not a nice predicament to be in Keith.....For what it's worth my view is that if the Coronavirus continues to see 'no' significant reduction over the next few weeks then there is a real possibility that many cruises will get canceled anyway. If on the other hand your cruise goes ahead the question you have to ask yourselves is will you enjoy it knowing what could lie ahead?
It's one of them Keith
Regards
Keith

P&O refused to transfer the money they are holding to another cruise we have booked for September. We may well cancel that also and cut off our nose to spite our face! At least that would only! cost us the £250 deposit
To oldbluefox, onelife, manoverboard and others, we appreciate your concern, expressions of sympathy and support. We made our decision to cancel for the best of reasons and were prepared to suffer the resultant loss but this is a very welcome bonus. All we have to do now is to steer clear of the dreaded virus and find another cruise. Fingers crossed, still no positive tests on our tropical isle.

Pleased for you Kaymar
I suppose it would have been too much to ask that the start of the FCC starts from the date when the pandemic is declared over?

Madeira has just banned flights from countries with active transmission. At the moment the UK doesn't appear to be on the list. But if that changes we could be here a while!

Really pleased you got a positive result. It was a worry you could do without but good that you can now plan ahead for the time this cloud has passed.

P&O may have been late to the party, but they have certainly stepped up to the plate with their response, at least as far cancellation costs go, they still need to bite the bullet and decide to cancel cruising for a couple of months at least.oldbluefox wrote: ↑14 Mar 2020, 09:48Really pleased you got a positive result. Norfolk has not a single case (as far as is known) and not a loo roll to be found.Manoverboard wrote: ↑14 Mar 2020, 08:57

Re: Worst than the Noro.? Stuck on board with Coronavirus
I dont get this loo roll panic buying at all. OK, get 4 or 6 if you are getting low, but a trolley full? That is herd (lemming) thinking if Boris wants to know. A friend of ours bought umpteen packets of tea? Sorry, I just dont get it.
I got Noro on Arcadia once, and it waited until Gib homeward bound to strike me. Even so, rather Noro than Covid 19. At 78 I have no idea of the implications for me, or for post chemo suffering Sue. No thanks.

Mrs S and I we're wondering what happens to all the food onboard all these ships if they are laid up for a couple months.
We've got our order ready to put in........Wonder if they deliver

Brill …. everyone's a winner
Thanks, chaps. All we need to do now is recover c10x that amount by which our small s/ex portfolio has fallen over the last couple of weeks. Roughly 30% down to date. Don't panic, it will climb back eventually - won't it?
Maybe onelife's investment strategy is better. When is the next meeting, Keith?
