Hi Jean, yes I am still looking forward to the cruise. It looks like, based on the C.C. on the old P&O site and now on here, there is only me and you, so no rush for a sun-bed then. If there are others looking in and are on this cruise, just a reminder that the Southampton Boat Show is on if you are thinking to book a Hotel.

Well Lioness it looks like it is still me and you, if it stays the same I will of course step back to let a lady get to the bar to buy a round of drinks, always the gentleman that's me.

We might be on this one if the price drops enough. We are cruising on Oriana early August, first time since it became adult only.

Have just perused the Cruise Personaliser, and whilst Oriana retains a degree of formality, I am disappointed to read that there will be NINE 'smart' casual nights out of 17 (4F, 4JR & 4SC).
A better balance would have been 5F, 6JR and 6SC. Smart Casual could be retained just for the 1st and last night and 3 of 4 of the consecutive port calls and 1 tropical party at sea.
I will dress for four formals, 12 jacket required (+tie) and smart casual for the tropical night party.

Sorry, mis-type - should read 4F, 4JR & 9SC. I had made claear my dismay at NINE 'Smart' Casual evenings.

Do I take it that you will be 'ignoring' the dress code on these nine evenings? The Monocled Mutineer wrote:Sorry, mis-type - should read 4F, 4JR & 9SC. I had made claear my dismay at NINE 'Smart' Casual evenings.

seems pointless going, if you cannot respect other passengers and at least adopt the minimum required, may traditional cruisers get very very miffed when the Chavs and underclass cannot dress up properly and don't half give you some dirty looks

Dark Knight:
I am adopting the minimum required. Other than the Tropical Party night, where I dispense with the need for a jacket, I will continue to wear a jacket and tie after 6pm when in public rooms on so-called Smart Casual evenings.

We knew that, Derek, so why complain about the dress codes? You will be wearing exactly what you prefer to wear. The Monocled Mutineer wrote:Dark Knight:

Quizical Bob:
Because in my view the number of Formal / Semi Formal evenings for a 17 night cruise should be higher than four and four respectively.
Having men slopping around after 6pm for 9 nights tie less, jacketless (and often with their shirt hanging out and wearing jeans) erodes the anticipated ambiance. This was the case on Ventura's Grand Event cruise last year which was of the same length and similiar itinerary.

Dear Mr Kane
I would be most interested to learn how the manner of a person's dress influences the ambience of an evening ,anticipated or otherwise, as it is still the same people both in and out of their clothes?
So say for example ,a person is an umittigated snob or a bigotted poltroon, they would remain so ,regardless of what they wore, would they not?
so how do clothes influence people's behavior and lead to anticipation of ambience
I await a no doubt fulsome and expansive reply to my modest enquiry

But it doesn't spoil the ambiance for those who prefer to dress in such manner. The Monocled Mutineer wrote:Quizical Bob:

did you correctly anticipate the ambience, or were you somewhat dissapointed to find that the manner of dress contibutes nothing to the ambience of the evening?

I correctly anticipated that the clothes people were wearing had no effect on the ambience, apart perhaps from formal nights when I detected a certain grumpiness from all those forced to dress up. Mainly from me.
