Help needed, please!

Post by Linda67 » 14 Apr 2019, 12:27

We are on Aurora at the end of May and could do with a bit of guidance for the following ports - I should mention that we don't really enjoy long(ish) coach trips, so have ruled out some of the excursions. We last cruised 18 months ago, and the excursion prices seem to have shot up!

Cadiz - have done Cadiz a few times, thinking of Jerez on your own, is there much to look at/see? We've been before but went to the Equestrian centre and then on for sherry tasting, so didn't see Jerez itself (was a bit blurry after the sherry!)

Barcelona - we're here until late evening, thinking of using the cable car and seeing the Spanish village. Does anyone know how easy it is to get to the cable car station from the shuttle drop off, or would it be better to get the HOHO bus. I really want to go back in the evening as well and see the fountains with the light display and music.

Genoa - never been before, not really sure what to do!

Sorrento - as above, but did go to Naples on our last cruise and did the walk up Vesuvius and then onto Herculaneum.

Palma - again we're here until late evening, but never been before either

Civitavecchia - we've done Rome, and last time did Marta and the wine tasting, again not sure what to do, so any ideas greatly appreciated!

I should add, that although this is our 10th cruise, we're not overly confident, and if doing our own thing, we're the sort of people that would rather be back on the ship 2 hours earlier than what we could be!!

Thank you all in advance.

Linda

Cadiz … you've walked the walk, drunk the sherry and seen the horses …. tick.

Barcelona … walk up Las Ramblas, past the fountains and then on the right side stop a while and have a selection of ' tapas '.

Genoa is a gem of a place and the best day trip would be to go to ' Cinque Terre ', ideally by rail and boat.

Sorrento is ok, visit the old harbour and mooch about … else consider a ferry to Capri, time permitting.

Palma is lovely, visit the Old Town but allow for plenty of time in the Cathedral.

Rome …. consider to coach tour to Bracciano perhaps ?

Last time we were in Barcelona they were making a big thing about the Roman excavations and you could go around them. The only problem we had was that we could not find out where the entrance was!

Hi Li da

We did the Jerez on your own last October when we were on Aurora.
Can highly recommend it, guide was good and took us the meretingp p.ace. We went round an alcazar and then as it was absolutely tipping down with rain we paid and went into a sherry bodega and had a brilliant tour round. We paid that bit extra and had tapas with our sherry and it was amazing.

Years ago did Capri but paid to go with P and O excursion rather than on our own,as you go on the hydrofoil as it can be busy and you need to allow time to get back. Our tour included a lovely lunch.

Have a lovely time.

The Ports of Call listing on this site may also be of value.
