Amsterdam

Post by Whynd1 »

Have just booked the 4 night break on Arcadia which calls at Amsterdam. Not been to AMsterdam before and on looking at the P and O web site I noticed that they do not run a shuttle bus, can anyone tell me does that mean that where the ship docks its not far to walk into Amsterdam. Not sure whether to book a P and O excursion or try to do own thing.

I believe there ore two places the ship can dock in Amsterdam so it sounds as if it might be the farthest away, we have only docked at the closer one, there could have been a shuttle bus but we walked so I wouldn't know, it is very flat although there is a very busy main road to negotiate when you get to the outskirts of the centre and thousands of bikes everyone rides bikes

It is very easy to DIY, one way is via the canal boats where you can hop on/off at various places of interest.

When we docked at Amsterdam at Christmas, it was about a 10-15 minute walk into the centre of town. Plenty of taxis at the cruise terminal for those less mobile.

When we were there we saw ships docking beside the Movebpick hotel which is an easy walk into town and through the station.

If you are considering the Ann Frank house then book your tickets online before you ogo ... you can then walk past the queue to a door just to the left of where the main queue is entering, ring the bell and get straight in.

A short walk to Amsterdam Railway Station which is a good orientation point.

Did this trip for the second time last January. very much enjoyed the Bols Visitor Centre.

Looking on the whatsinport.com website - go to the cruise calendar for your particular port, and you can see what other ships are in that day, and then you might find a link to see on the port authority website where you are intended to berth.

It's not a huge walk in Amsterdam, and it's flat - big bonus point! Don't miss the small 'lock' Arcadia will have to go through just before reaching the city.

The various activities on the water in Amsterdam can be great fun - the water buses and taxis etc - can be quite amusing sometimes.

Have a great time.

Em :)

It's not a long procedure, but it's there nonetheless. Obviously - if you miss it on the way in, you'll know where it is on the way back!
