Cartagena
On a future cruise one of our stops is Cartagena in Spain.
Have never been there before and wondered if anyone who has thinks it is worth arranging a tour, or is it just as enjoyable to wander around DIY.
As far as I can tell the cruise ships dock within easy walking of the town.
Any advice gratefully received.

Re: Cartagena
Some great tapas bars as well.
Lovely little town vert atmospheric. Make towards the old ampitheatre which has recently been discovered then wind your way into the town area. Lots to see. Very friendly. Did I say great Tapas. When you get off the ship go to the info booth on the dock side. The first time we got free miniatures of the yummy local liquor cuantra tres the second time we got a voucher which can be used in lots of the tapas bars. 2 euros for a coffee , liquor and a chocolate. Finished off our great tapas lunch nicely. We went the El Burril home made tapas about 30 to choose from.
Have a great time.

Re: Cartagena
Whatever gave you that idea. I think I was born to be Spanish but my parents lived there for a long time about 25 years so we visited regularly and as they lived the Spanish way so did we. My eldest son gets off a plane in Spain and within a couple of hours he is speaking Spanish and acting like a spaniard, so much so that he gets the discount in the local supermarkets as they think he is Spanish.

Re: Cartagena
I was lucky enough to spend some time in the city back in the 1990's and 2000's and found it very unspoiled. If you get away from the main restaurants and pick establishments where you see a lot of the local people eating you are in for a culinary treat. The harbour is not very large as I recall, and the port was close to the town.

Re: Cartagena
We went to Cartagena 3 weeks ago. Lovely place to diy. We did a tour this time called the tapas trail. It is a walking tour which does some sightseeing but calls into some bars along the way where tapas and drinks are provided. Very enjoyable.
Have fun Keith.
