Advice on Venice
Is there an easy/best way to get from the port into Venice?
(I know you will not know exactly where we will be docked but it will not be a million miles away)
We will be doing this city on our own.

Get off the ship, walk to the road and turn left ... the station is elevated and can now be seen to your right ... whizz round the roundabout and down the straight to the people mover ( Mono rail ).
Pop a €1 coin in the slot and get off at the first station ... simples.
Now follow your map, the signs or your instincts.

The (more expensive) alternative is the water bus laid on by P&O which drops you off close to St Mark's Square.

Yes but the P&O water bus does not travel down the grand canal, so the cheaper and more scenic way is people mover to Piazzale Roma and water bus down the GC to st Marks.oldbluefox wrote:The (more expensive) alternative is the water bus laid on by P&O which drops you off close to St Mark's Square.

Indeed but bear in mind you then have to get back again either by the same water taxi or by walking back to Piazzale Roma. Ronay was asking the easy/best way to get into Venice from the port. There are alternatives. Bear in mind the P&O water bus is a return fare.

Take the people mover to Piazzale Roma and then buy a 12 hour vaporetto ticket and then you can sail up and down the Grand Canal all day long if you want, or travel out to the islands like Murano for the glass making.
A tip to speed things up. As you come out of the cruise terminal, there is a tobacconist shop where you can buy your people mover and vaporetto tickets and then by pass the massive queues at the people mover ticket machines. The was no queue at the tobacconist when we went.

Re: Advice on Venice
The first time we visited Venice was on Aurora in 2009 and we took a P&O tour to Murano / Isola di San Giorgio / and a Gondola ride at St Mark's Square (Included in the tour price) and then went back to the ship it was a fab tour. But this time we wanted to do the Grand Canal so had to DIY. We walked from Azura to the people mover (Short level walk) got our tickets at the enormous price of 1 Euro each ( No queue ) got on the people mover that took us to Piazzale Roma Venice (Just one stop) http://europeforvisitors.com/.../venice ... -mover.htm
From there we had a short walk to get the Vaporetto Route 1 or 2 (Opposite Venice Railway Station) to Saint Marks square (8 euro each for 60 minutes Price in October 2013) and went down The Grand Canal it was just amazing. We then did all the tourist things and then got the ships shuttle boat back to the Azura (We got the single tickets for this on Azura the day before I think it was £7 each Price in October 2013) it was all so easy cheap fantastic and memorable. There are so many ways to see Venice but this was the way we chose.
