Tapas with a nice glass of wine or two while watching the world go by.

Gambas a la plancha, albondigas, chorizo en vino tinto, pan con tomate, bocorrones

That's what we would do. :D
Empty vessels .. and all that

we were deeply impressed with Alicante - it came with an unfortunate reputation!

the beaches were a short stroll from the ship and were immaculate.

there's a tram which runs along the coast if you want to explore further.

We walked round the town (good shops) - and back through an open air market on the very shady tree lined esplanade (with very unusual paving stones)

I love Alicante, one of the better cruise ports. It has a lovely, shaded promenade with little stalls selling all manner of things, a nice shopping area and one or two lovely fountains. We tend to go for casual strolls around the town and find it very pleasant indeed just for taking it easy and relaxing. It was certainly not what I had come to expect.

We too were pleasantly surprised with Alicante it wasn't at all what I was expecting.

Very nice to just wander around and take in the atmosphere.

I agree with all that been said above. Not what I was expecting.
There is also the Volvo Ocean race museum near where you dock.

Alicante cruise terminal is not fit for purpose, but downtown Ali was most enjoyable

Could well have confused it with Liverpool

Alicante has the best of both Worlds .True cultural Spanish and tourist stuff.

The castle in Alicante has a lift built into it deep underground for wheel chairs etc. It's worth using not just to save some effort but it's also straight out of a Bond 007 movie. Every exotic Bond baddy has one exactly the same with a large underground room and in the center is a huge shinny tube with a single glowing light on it.

Forgot, Elche just down the road (a bit) is fantastic and called 'The City of Palms' and you'll think you are in North Africa.
