Russian cuisine
I was just browsing through some literature on excursions in St Petersburg. Some of the two day excursions include a Russian lunch and I was wondering was that might consist of borscht perhaps.

Re: Russian cuisine
When we went the meals were three courses (2 different days) As I remember the starter was salad one of the main courses was chicken and the next day stroganoff with a cold dessert and coffee also wine(a bit rough) and bottled water. Hope this helps you:)

Re: Russian cuisine
We have eaten in Russia on two separate occasions in two different Cities ... both were included in an excursion and were held in very smart Hotels as far as the frontage / foyer was concerned but it was more akin to the lower floor of a multi storey Cark Park where one's tourist food was served. We had starched linen table cloths, cheapo cutlery and KGB look-a-likes dressed in ill fitting formal attire pretending to be waiters. I recall having extremely tough lettuce(?), mains with a hat full of ' eeees ' and food colouring, ditto the pud plus Champagne to die for of.
Overall a rubbish experience and one that we would only repeat if the venue was a family run ' upmarket ' Russian restaurant.

Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

All I can remember is sampling the Russian vodka on a trip - didn't bother with the food!

Beware undercooked chicken Kiev. Not a cruise line excursion, one of the main Russian Tour providers.

Our guide (TJ Travel) took us to a pie shop (Stolle). A wide range of both savoury and sweet fillings, they were delicious and perfect for a quick lunch stop.

Re: Russian cuisine
True but it is always good to have a nice spot of lunch al fresco when one is touring the sites, unless of course capitalism has blossomed and there is the ubiquitous fast food outlet to be found, at least that will stop the parochial brits, shouting " I don't hold with all this foreign muck" and "this stuff don't taste like it does at home"

Re: Russian cuisine
oi you cheeky sod, I will be seeking out traditional local fare to enjoy, with a pre-pre- prandial and this will add to the anticipated ambience of my site seeing excursions and further increase my appreciation of different cultures that I will experience on my sojourn around the Baltic states
