There are some who do not seem to know the purpose of the tongs and just get stuck in with the fingers,
Ah, but everybody touches the tongs and only a few have actually touched the food Just a thought....

Sorry, Stephen I wasn’t very clear. It was the facility to wash hands as you walked into the buffet. So it’s not the cattle prod that is needed just an appreciation of what the facility is. The hand wash stations don’t have a obvious tap ( water flows on a sensor), there is not an obvious sink, rather a sloping gutter and the paper towels are in a dispenser above. It’s rather like the hand wash facility on an inter city train.

There is a similar facility on Britannia which I avoided like the plague, the sink always looked filthy, far worse than the public facilities. I much prefer to use the hand gel dispensers, which on Azura and Ventura.are well policed by the tray and cutlery waitresses.

The trick is not to touch the sink Towny. The taps have sensors so no need to touch anything

I will say Celebrity are so much better with this. Immaculate public toilets with a staff member constantly cleaning and monitoring people in and out, and no doubt making sure everyone washes their hands. As for going into restaurants, there is always someone making sure you use the hand gel before entering.

Good point Bob, back to the drawing board.
I don't think you can get away without touching a surface that maybe has been touched by an unclean hand, it goes to show the importance of washing hands and backing it up with the gel.
Don't worry, be happy

I never touched anything but just the sight of it would have put me right off my full english breakfast.

The best protection really is thorough hand washing with soap and water.

A very fair point. Trouble is, some people think the use of gel is a substitute for proper hygiene and that is where the problems start.

The recommendation is to wash your hands thoroughly for the length of time it takes to sing "Happy Birthday" right through twice. I've tried it, but I get some very funny looks in the public facilities !!

Welcome to the madhouse Sindy, by the way

The best protection I find is not to be too fastidiously clean at home, a few bugs and bacteria are good for keeping your immune system on top form. I suspect the first to succumb to a virus on holiday are those who regularly spray every surface at home with a bactericide, and rarely set foot in a cafe or restaurant.

No, but you do have rats and rabbits "germinating" all your home grown fresh vegetables.
