P&O and Cunard redundancies at Southampton

#1

Post by Gill W »

450 redundancies at Carnival UK HQ in Southampton and the remaining staff will get a 20% pay cut

https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/184421 ... -lockdown/

Extremely worrying for all the staff involved.

Yes this is very bad news for the staff who have worked so hard to reorganise passengers cruises.
When I have to ring through they are all so lovely and polite and helpful.

I wonder if this is "jumping the gun" in respect of the furlough scheme not being extended as they would only have had another few days to start redundancy negotiations.

Sadly this will not be the last - especially in the holiday/hospitality sectors.

The furlough scheme has been extended to October but in what exact form we wait to see.

I think I heard it said the furlough scheme would be reduced from 80% to 60% to a maximum of £2,500 depending on your employment circumstances?

This is what the government said yesterday, make of it what you can. There’s nothing in there about a specific reduction, just the mention of the possibility that workers could stay on the scheme and work part time ‘from the start of August’. The amount received stays at 80% but presumably the employer will have to pay some amount pro-rata.

They'll be up and down like a yo yo for some time yet. A good time to buy, but only for the long term.

I keep telling my wife this but she won't part with my money......when the yo yo goes up on the recovery I'll have missed the boat again. :(

Sorry to hear this. It’s not nice when someone’s job is at risk. Have friends waiting to hear whether they will have a job at the end of this.
