Harmony of the Seas in Southampton
Harmony of the Seas has docked in Southampton
That is one big ship.
Do I like it ? Not sure.

Re: Harmony of the Seas in Southampton
I was in Southampton yesterday as we were on a day trip (by coach) to the Isle of Wight, so I missed Harmony by one day. (got some good photos of Aurora and Britannia though)
I was looking on the BBC News page, and it said Harmony can carry 6780 passengers!
It's just getting a bit much now - that's far too many people.
I'll give this one a miss - I wouldn't even fancy a 2 night taster cruise

Re: Harmony of the Seas in Southampton
The Oasis class ships have 2700 cabins, so assuming a normal 2 persons per cabin that's only 5400 passengers and like most RCI ships, they have a much higher space ratio per passenger than most of P&O's ships, except Arcadia and Aurora. So a lot less crowded than the likes of Britannia and Azura/Ventura.

A friend of ours was on a cruise which called in at Santorini. There were four ships in including one of the large RCI ones. Our friend said it was impossible to move around and the estimate was over 10,000 cruise passengers milling around.

Just my luck the Bloody Behemoth is in Southampton Sunday along with 3 others, it's going to be chaotic.

We have the same problem on the 29th May when we join Oriana. Thank goodness we only have to travel across from the Isle of Wight. We are going to look like the poor relations with Harmony of the Seas, Britannia and Queen Victoria in as well.screwy wrote:Just my luck the bl**dy Behemoth is in Southampton Sunday along with 3 others, it's going to be chaotic.
To add to our joy we have realised that, on our return journey, we will be joining the 'happy campers' coming over to the Isle of Wight Pop Festival on Friday 10th June - such bliss, all those queues.

It's in for a few days and I don't think it will be taking up its full complement of passengers every day. I didn't actually notice it yesterday but there was a big Aida ship berthed out at Dockhead. Apparently it's here quite often.

That's one of those oxymorons!towny44 wrote:The Oasis class ships have 2700 cabins, so assuming a normal 2 persons per cabin that's only 5400 passengers and like most RCI ships, they have a much higher space ratio per passenger than most of P&O's ships, except Arcadia and Aurora. Come the school holidays, more than likely half of the cabins will have at least one child in as well, a capacity of 6780 could be reached very easily.
I think it could get very crowded

It appears to have a maximum capacity of 6360 passengers, 5488 based on double occupancy.

Radio Solent has a reporter on board as "Harmie" does its short sojourn twixt the local waters
Her reports have been interesting, but to my mind the cruise trade have little interest for us traditional cruisers
Robot bar staff - give that a miss

Re: Harmony of the Seas in Southampton
We saw Harmony of the Seas go out late Friday evening and it looked stunning all lit up. Watched it sail out last night in daylight (well, with a thundery sky above her) and thought what a really ugly ship.
Not for us, I'm afraid, but I'm sure many will love her.
Maureen.

We saw her on Wednesday and again on Sunday. Couldn't believe how wide apart the funnels are. Not our cup of tea, but I'm sure she will be for others.

We saw this ship and then there was a ship on Mayflower (might have been Ventura or Azura at a guess) - and this huge hulk of a ship absolutely dwarfed the other one.
I don't fancy it.

Does that mean there may be.................872 children on board, if at full capacity?Quizzical Bob wrote:It appears to have a maximum capacity of 6360 passengers, 5488 based on double occupancy.

We saw her at the weekend and I must say she was VERY ugly indeed! Definitely too big and too many passengers for us, but no doubt she'll have her fans.

Ah, I forgot, you may have returned back into Southampton on Sunday - we missed again! Sorry to have missed you on embarkation day, but I hope your cruise was as lovely as ours.GillD46 wrote:We saw her at the weekend and I must say she was VERY ugly indeed! We're all unpacked now, and almost starting counting the days again!

Probably more if older children have their own cabin.wolfie wrote:Does that mean there may be.................872 children on board, if at full capacity?Quizzical Bob wrote:It appears to have a maximum capacity of 6360 passengers, 5488 based on double occupancy.

It was sensational, probably one of the very, very best. Service and food truly exceptional.Boris+ wrote:Ah, I forgot, you may have returned back into Southampton on Sunday - we missed again! No more cruises for us this year at present - though we have lovely Caribbean holidays booked - but next year the cruising diary is very full.

We've got a similar post-cruise feeling inasmuchas we are certain that this was the best cruise we had ever been on. Memorable for the very best of reasons.GillD46 wrote:It was sensational, probably one of the very, very best.
