On her current cruise she is staying for 2 full days and nights in Antigua for some essential maintenance, speculation is that it is probably repairs to the stabilisers which don't seem to working efficiently, possibly damaged after the December storm.

We were on this cruise and yes it was a bit hairy, surprised its taken a month to come to light! Incidentally the BOB was like a millpond on the way back so anyone who flew back from Gibraltar wasted their money!! It was a good cruise by the way and we thoroughly enjoyed it, and have to expect maybe bad weather at this time of year. :o

On the other side of the pond the Americans were a bit miffed on their cruise last week.

Poor Ventura she did get some battering. last year when we were on her in October we had very strong winds leaving Barcelona. We were warned it was going to be very rough, it was over 75 knots most of the night it lasted until 3am. That was the roughest we've experienced. Walking was a challenge and before Stephen casts aspersions NOT due to alcohol :)

We were on Ventura the night when there was a resounding crack and we awoke to find a gaping gap in the top promenade deck. I believe ships are built to flex. It's just that night it flexed a little too much but hey, this is all part and parcel of the cruising experience.

Not sure how you would fix that. It's not as though you can put it in a vice or put a G cramp on it.

You can still see the repair in some areas, they welded an extra piece of deck in place but most of it is covered with the wood look plastic flooring.

I expect that would be the best they could do. The window frame was distorted as well so they would presumably need new glass panels. I reckon flexing on these bigger ships would be part of the engineer's calculations but there is no accounting for exceptional circumstances. Thankfully the crack only occurred on a subsidiary deck as opposed to the mainframe (as far as I know!!! That's what the Captain said!!!)
Thankfuilly Stephen wasn't the Chief Engineer. :o
