Since when?

Apart from being scanned in nothing has changed.

Oh yes it has. :D

On Britannia they are trialing, no life jackets to be taken to the muster.

PO probably got fed up with people putting them on too early even though there are endless reminders NOT to do it.

More likely it's because they don't want to embarrass any ladies in skirts or dresses with that rather silly crotch strap.

Damn it. That's a waste of an hour filling out the job application :D

We had life jackets and no crotch strap on Azura in May. And we were scanned in. Anyone who didn't attend had to do it later.

It’s a trial on Britannia so it has not been rolled out to other ships yet. It has been mentioned that one of the reasons is to prevent accidents with trailing straps.

We have just got off Britannia at the weekend and we didn't need to take our lifejackets to muster. Also as my husband is in a wheelchair we were taken to one side and shown how to put the lifejacket on and then as soon as the Captain started to do his bit we were allowed to move nearer to the lifts so we were away first. Best Muster we have done, much less stressful.

I appreciate that life jacket drill needs to be done, but I wish they would get on with it once everyone is there. Standing, (because all the oldies got a seat about two hours before they should have), in a crammed muster station in hot weather is no fun. And I'm sure Captain Kirk keeps everyone waiting while he finishes his lunch.

There really is no need to take a life jacket to the Muster, P&O are perhaps trying to catch up with what other Cruise Lines have been doing for years.

If passengers are uncertain then they simply have to ask for hands on training.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

P@O and Cunard life boat drills seem to be on time and well ordered and inside.

RCI and Princess not as efficient. One of them cant remember which we were left lined up in rows in very cramped conditions on deck.

We were so uncomfortable that it was difficult to listen to instructions.

I often wonder how much of what is said at the Muster Drill would be remembered when "push came to shove" (probably literally!) - some cannot even remember which side of the stairs to use when they were only told five minutes before!

When we cruised with Princess & FO we didn't take our life jackets to the boat drill. Both scanned you in, didn't seem to take as long!

On Costa, lifeboat drill is a race to see who can get off before the captain.

But he's first anyway.

We had that on RCI. It seemed a bit odd. Yes, it puts you near the lifeboats, but the vast majority of emergency musters never lead to evacuation. Standing passengers on the open deck unnecessarily seems a big unjustified risk if the ship is not actually in danger of sinking.

Yes I agree. Quite a few can't even understand "just watch, do not put on your lifejackets", or "please do not reserve sunbeds". On that basis I don't see the point in taking jackets to the muster. If there was a true emergency it would surely be simple, and quick, enough to say "please follow these instructions and put your life jacket on now".

Yes Mervyn it was RCI. I remember thinking that if there was an emergency just how would we all manage as the deck was so crowded. We were literally shoulder to shoulder and getting cosy with those in front and behind.

Last year on Cunard there were a few trailing straps on the stairs as well despite being told not to let straps dangle.

RCI did have one benefit for wheelchair users, our muster was near the Midship elevator doors, and we were dismissed ahead of the herd to grab a lift.

What happened to the requests 'do not use the lifts, apart from those in wheel chairs'?

No idea, I was long gone before the herd arrived.

It's another elementary instruction a lot of cruisers don't understand sadly
