I read that just before. I bet they got them at a good price. It seems a big jump though from having 190 shops to add another 500+. I wonder how long some of them will survive.

It also seems to be reliant on Hays getting more favourable terms from the landlords as well.

Unless the properties are in an area where there is a high demand then that should not be difficult as any rent is better than no rent.

I would think Hays are in a very strong position, as David says 'any rent is better than no rent' .. I would guess if they don't get favourable terms they simply wont re-open the shops and then everyone loses out.

From what I can see Bath Travel have an excellent reputation, if they get their Marketing right I can't see why they shouldn't go from strength to strength, maybe all 'the shops' won't remain long term but more and more cruise specialists are employing 'home workers' so perhaps that will be the way forward for Hays and their employees, whichever way you look at it they have ( if only for a short time ) given some hope to those who would have been facing months of unemployment.

Re: Hays Travel buy Thomas Cook Shops
I’ve used a “homeworker travel agent” employed by Hays Travel for many years. I ring a guy who used to work for an independent TA in Cardiff - he specialises in cruises and many of his clientele are past customers like myself who have followed him and now book with Hays.
I am very satisfied with the service I receive - a discount helps of course I really hope the takeover is successful for all - past Thomas Cook employees must be so relieved.

Hays Travel took over the Bath Travel shop in our smallish village and seems to be making a success of it. I have some friends who wouldn't dream of looking on the internet for a holiday, hotel or flight and would go into Hays Travel. Anyway good luck to Hays Travel.

I wonder how many places have an overlap of Hays and TC - one of them will go.
