As the government want all the over 70s to stay indoors perhaps they would like to pay for the extra heating needed and let them have free TV.

Fortunately summer is coming and those of us with gardens will be able to spend a lot of time outside, while still in isolation. I am not anywhere near 70 but my husband is in three weeks, and it seems pointless him being in isolation if I’m not, so I’ll join him.

I have ordered a whole load of seeds and plan to stock up on compost later this week when - I hope I can come out of my self isolation due to a persistent cough.

Hope it passes soon Gill. I had a mild cold a while back which left me with a cough that occasionally sets off. No fever or other symptoms though so definitely not CV. Nonetheless I always think people are looking at me if I cough in a public place!

My isolation plan when we get home involves a bit of decorating if I can get the materials before they bolt the door! The biggest challenge is the car is booked in shortly for its MOT and if I'm forced to cancel that I'm stuffed.

I am sure the lovely people at DVLC will understand and give you an exception!!

The point is that there are many such things going on in our lives that cannot be ignored.

You need an MOT garage like mine Merv, the owner picks ours up and delivers it back after servicing and testing.

Smurfies bright idea.

P&O have ships that cannot go anywhere. The Government/NHS need beds. What have ships got in abundance? - beds. New branding for P&O - floating hospitals.

If needed I would require a suite!!

It would certainly be a possibility.

Now that is lateral thinking - good idea.

Ships have been used as hospitals before but mainly for less serious things. I'm not sure how they'd work for seriously ill infectious patients needing intensive care.

My July Iona cruise balance was due yesterday but I have today cancelled and thought I would forfeit my deposit but pleased to find out that it will be refunded - not what I was expecting :lolno:

Thanks I sort of knew what you meant  All these statements about refunds/future cruise credits etc. are a bit confusing but my travel agent tells me that he is working 12 hour days to cope with people cancelling/rebooking/having refunds - very very busy. I need to speak to my son and family about our Whitsun week cruise which is fully paid for and what to do - so many options - rebook/partial refund plus FCC or wait until last minute and 125% FCC - the mind boggles

In the end I have applied for a refund. Not sure how things will work out. Already have one booked in October which I can move if I need to. Just not sure how things are going to work out and this option gives me the best flexibility.

My niece is certainly enjoying her sail home - she and her husband sent a photo of themselves tonight at a food and wine pairing evening in the Epicurean - they said they are “bit tipsy” :lolno:

Do they have enough testing kits to do this .... seems very doubtful.

I wonder if the test is more rudimentary. Do you have a cough? Let me stick this thermometer in your ear. (Or worse)

But more to the point will any port actually be open to cruise ships by then?

The test checks that I have seen have been with an infrared thermometer pointed at foreheads. I have an industrial version of one of these which I bought to check the temperature profile of my radiators. I never thought it would come in useful for cruise holidays.
