We are moored offshore at Port Gogolin. Tenders will take you ashore. Excursions are operating to take you to St. Tropez.

Perhaps somebody will bring Mobietta a bottle of the Region's excellent ' Brigeete ' style Rose wine, chilled ideally.

Definitely the right weather for a nicely chilled Rose' : Wine tasting on deck at 6pm.

Off to our last port of call in southern France - Toulon (unless anyone is desperate to visit Marseille)

We were transferred from La Seyne-sur-Mer on a local passenger ferry. A lazy visit to Toulon. Just wandered up through the street which leads to the fruit and general market and then sat on the promenade drinking wine. Really must do an excursion if we ever go again as we didn't find Toulon very interesting other than the naval ships in port.

we went to Toulon - donkey's years ago.
the P&O trip was to a nearby seaside town (we thought) The coach parked on a roundabout - we climb ed out into the traffic - wandered around for a bit - then were bussed to a golf course for a snack. I think it was advertised as looking at the sites of whatever region of France that is.

Deeply uninspiring...

BUT the naval welcome when we'd arrived in port had been quite something!

The closest we ever got to Toulon was, according to one’s Tour Manager as we approached the place, the most beautiful town of Aix-en-Provence with its main street display of never ending fountains. When we got off the coach for one’s walk-about one quickly realised that all the bl**dy fountains had been dug up for plumbing works due to corrosion issues

Oh dear. We aren't giving the Toulon area a very good write up, are we? Did anyone go to Marseille? We found that rather uninspiring as well, although I wish I could have persuaded Ken to climb the steep hill to the Notre-Dame de la Garde. There was an emphatic NO from him and the queue for the little train was horrendous so we just wandered round the old port. I don't think we bothered to take any photos.

Marseilles harbour front looked very attractive on a James Martin programme touring France a year or so ago.

Indeed so, it is a foodie capital of course but that is not top of one's list after a week on a sea Cruise.

The Rhone enters the sea at this point I believe and further up river and connected by a motorway is delightful Avignon.

It could be that our feelings regarding Marseilles were coloured by receiving a memo from PO advising us to be on our guard as there was a risk of terrorist activity in Marseilles and to be aware of pick pockets around the old port area. I suppose that can be a problem in any big city or port nowadays.

There was a time when a number of ' diversely populated ' Cities were virtually no-go. Marseilles was one and Naples, for example, was another. They have been cleaned up and the problems moved elsewhere. I would be happy to stroll about in the Old Town nowadays albeit less so in Paris.

We love Barcelona but this time we will do an excursion back to Montserrat where we spent our 50th wedding anniversary in 2017. Hopefully someone will visit Parc Guell as we have never been there and I would love to see some photos. We might get there one day.

Barcelona was my first cruise port, and we’ve visited three or four times since then. We have not yet done the Montserrat excursion, but have been to Parc Guell, which I enjoyed. I’ll post some pics tomorrow, when I’m on the PC

Lindsey, did you get right to the very top. On the PO excursion we didn't get enough time to do it. It looks amazing.

No Maureen like you was on the P and O excursion.

I had a 10 year gap between visiting the Sagrada Familia and the difference in what had achieved was amazing.

They were rushing to get as much done before a visit from the Pope that was about 6 or 7 years ago.
