Re: Post Covid cruising restart guidelines
That was an interesting read - if a future cruise was fully booked and p and o adopted the same guidelines how do you think they would be able to reduce numbers to 60% fairly?

Good idea! I’m so sure our South American won’t go ahead ( or if it does will look nothing like the current itinerary) I’ve ordered new kitchen brochures in anticipation!!

It’s all understandable but doesn’t cover insurance.
If you have confirmed covid and are disembarked in a foreign country, is your insurance picking up the tab?

This does feel like a long suspension but in reality it is long worldwide voyages that would normally fill the space between December and March. I suspect P&O's worldies will go the same way. Then we may see some shorter nearer to home cruises slotted in if conditions allow.

Re: Post Covid cruising restart guidelines
I think that they are missing an opportunity on their doorstep.
Next year and until things get better, they could base one ship at Southampton doing a seven day round robin UK cruise.
Marketing it as a Staycation Cruise.
Never too far from home if things go wrong.
We’d go on it assuming they were not asking silly money like some of the current odd U.K. cruise.

It could even just go round the Isle of Weight with no Ports but be a gourmet experience with a full entertainment program, easy to socially distance and no risk apart from fellow passengers who would all have to be tested seven and three days prior to departure. It would be nice and warm unlike the freezing temperatures outside. Money is not an issue cos apart from Barney nobody is spending anything of significance.

I think Barney and MOB have just described what I would call cruising hell.

Re: Post Covid cruising restart guidelines
If P&O fall into the same guide lines as most of the other main stream cruise lines, which I expect they will, then I'm not impressed by the 'you can only get off the ship at ports if you are on a excursion' rule.
Refer to previous link https://youtu.be/UVgLtOqplYE
I'm not overly keen on excursions unless it's something really worth seeing, preferring to go ashore and do our own thing. So it's a case of spending two weeks onboard or being ripped off with excursion prices to be able to go ashore. I don't think so.
This sounds like another cancellation coming up unless things change between now a March when our balance is due.

And probably "herded" together and not able to move away from the group. I agree - no thank you.

There was talk about MSC providing 3 free excursions on its restart cruises, because going ashore on your own might not be possible, maybe P&O would do the same.

Nor me David.
I wouldn’t holiday abroad for a long while if they gave it to me.
Plymouth has just had a spike in infection caused by 30 lads going partying to Zante. All aged under 20.
Arrived back and 11 have tested positive.
I wonder how many popped in to see Granny when they got back .

Perhaps if one or two ended up hospitalised, or worse, it might make the yoof take this more seriously......but I doubt it. Too arrogant for that.

I don’t think it can be classed as arrogance Stephen, more like youngsters of that age know the risk to them is insignificant.Stephen wrote: ↑27 Aug 2020, 10:28barney wrote: ↑27 Aug 2020, 09:30Nor me David.

The amount of young people having serious problems with covid is extremely low.
The problem arises when they infect others who are more vulnerable.
All over the world, infections are up.
India aside, the fatalities are low.
It could be that this virus has taken those vulnerable people who were the most susceptible.

I agree with the above - wouldn’t be interested in group port excursions only - so glad we managed to do a worldie ( well sort of a worldie except Asia!) - carnt see any further cruises for a long while

Re: Post Covid cruising restart guidelines
With India and such places having big spikes, it presents big headaches for any cruise line trying to restart a cruise.
How will any cruise line be able to recall crew back to ship, the testing and retesting and locking them down till proved clear of covid will take many weeks.
I can not see any 'proper' cruiseing this side of the of the new cruise schedule.

Re: Post Covid cruising restart guidelines
Mrs B has already decided that she doesn’t want to go on our June 21 cruise so I’ve written off the deposit.
Only U.K. holidays for us for quite a few years I reckon.
May never go back to international cruises.

I think we might be in the same boat barney with our July booking unless the current rules change about having to book an excursion as the only way of getting off the ship. We shall see come March when the balance is due.

Re: Post Covid cruising restart guidelines
For us, it’s not necessarily a covid issue.
I’m sure that could be managed.
It’s really about the whole cruise experience and enjoying the ports.
We are usually quite spontaneous when on holiday and wouldn’t want to book theatre etc in advance.
Sometimes we only decide where to eat minutes before.
