Oceana Sold

#1

Post by Suekersh »

P & O have just announced the sale of Oceana. This was our first P & O Ship.

Very sad but time to go.

I have some lovely memories of sailing on Oceana in my early cruising days. It must be 5 years or so since I last sailed on her.

My 1st cruise was on Oceana and she got me hooked that was in 2006. We have been cruising since and have been on her 3 times she will be missed especially by us.

We did our first back-2-back on Oceana, great trip but we didn't return to this particular ship.

So ... who is the new owner ?

Not a ship we particularly liked so won't be missed by us.

Many years ago I suggested to P&O's CEO of the period, OLs friend Carol, that they should base a ship in Hereklion and do rotating 7 day cruises in the Greek Islands ... looks like somebody has the same idea

We loved Oceana. The aft mini suites were lovely, incredibly large with big, deep balconies. The 6 aft suites were, we think, the best in the fleet. I think you could probably get at least two suites the size of the Azura/Ventura suites in the Oceana ones. They really did have two rooms - only separated by a curtain but even so. Our first P&O ship was the old Adonia, the sister ship to Oceana. She's still sailing with Princess under her original name, Sea Princess. Mind you when cruising eventually starts again whether she'll still be with Princess who knows!

Oceana was the first P&O ship we sailed on and we loved her. However the last trip we did we thought she was looking very tired and with Cafe Jardin gone and a couple of other changes it was nothing like the ship we enjoyed so much.
Change is inevitable and you have to embrace it but regrettably many of the changes which have been made since we first started cruising have not been for the better IMO - the band at the dockside, streamers, champagne fountains, lovely gateaux.............. :(
