Horizon Buffet Dress Code
Hi, I'm a newcomer to cruising. Off on my first cruise aboard Iona to the Norwegian Fjords this weekend. Could anybody give me any indication of what is acceptable to wear in the Horizon Buffet Restaurant in the evenings? I have polo shirts and chinos, which I think will be fine, but it's the footwear I need help with. The P&O website says no trainers but equally casual surely can't mean formal shoes, right? Can I get away with wearing canvas pumps? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If my understanding of canvas pumps are the same as yours then they should be fine.
My choice would be slip ons with a strap across in whatever colour from M&S type shoes.
ps ... Hello & welcome

Thanks for your advice. Canvas Pumps does cover a broad range of shoe and I'm concerned mine are a bit too 'trainer like', they're white for a start!
I thought this might be fine for the Horizon Restaurant as it seems a little more relaxed, but on perhaps I should invest in some slips on shoes as you suggest.

I normally wear some type of deck shoe, or a slip on casual shoe, even in the MDR, and your polo shirt and chinos would also be perfectly acceptable in any of the speciality dining rooms.

You’ll look just dandy, Dandy.
Anything bar flip flops or socks and sandals is fine.
Have a great time

Thanks everyone, this is a great help. I was worried the fashion police might throw me overboard if I was not wearing the correct attire but after all your advice perhaps I'm overthinking it and just need to relax and look forward to the cruise. Thanks again.

As long as you are not barefoot you will be fine.
Except on Formal nights

Re: Horizon Buffet Dress Code
I am not sure about the trainers bit ... the only shoes I wear/own are trainers (some may look like old style shoes though, including the black pair for weddings and funerals) ... never had a problem. They should be fine for the buffet and the Beach Hut (or similar). I am not sure of the restaurant configuration on Iona but, on other ships, the likes of Sindhus and Epicurean have a dress code on all nights (usually OK with smart casual, but no shorts .. no matter how dressy you claim they are). I am not sure about the glass house.
So for the Horizon buffet what you suggest should be fine.

I’ve never had a problem with dress code in the buffet, although it might be frowned upon in other restaurants

Good for you Stephen, at least you made an effort, some don’t.

That's the formal night outfit. On casual nights just omit the braces.

Formal nights I put a clean vest on.
