Re: Bingo
I have decided to add a daily 'fascinating fact' about bingo. I know Cubie will appreciate this as he has admitted that the other old dears sometimes get a bit bored with his flower arranging chat during the tea break. Here is today's,
Where did bingo originate?
Did you know that bingo originated in Italy in the 14th century? It was known as “Lo Giuoco del Lotto D’Italia” and is still played in Italy in a variety of forms

Re: Bingo
Fascinating bingo facts for today;
1) The game was originally known as 'beano' in the US, and was renamed 'bingo' when an overly enthusiastic player was so overcome by his prospective win that he shouted 'bingo' instead of 'beano.' The name 'beano' came from the fact that the game was previously done by covering the numbers with beans, since no multi-colored daubers were around in the 1930s.
And fascinating fact number 2 and irrefutable proof that despite his protestations Cubie is at the bingo on a Friday night - MOST BINGO PLAYERS ARE ALSO CAT LOVERS!

Re: Bingo
OK, it's confession time....and I fully expect to receive an inordinate amount of flak from a certain quarter !
As every self-respecting browser of ths forum knows, the malicious (and patently false) rumour of my penchant for bingo was fabricated by one incumbent of the Prison Isle for reasons best known to herself !
Well, I can now reveal that it is not quite so far wide of the mark. In the dim, distant past, I helped to run weekly fund raising bingo sessions for our local football Supporters' Club and I could often be found flitting amongst the bingo wings and Fag Ash Lil's as a checker, ratifying the winning lines. That was a dangerous old game, I can tell you - what those old birds got up to on a bingo night was nobody's business !
