Orchid goes East
Has anyone any idea what the East menu is like? If it's Indian cuisine that writes it off for us as my wife can't eat this and I won't eat in a separate restaurant! The Orchid menu provided a subtle taste of the far east which is one of our favourites.
The Ocean Grill is not our scene either which could mean our World Cruise in Jan will be without select dining. Help!

If you go to cruise Personaliser you can see a menu for the East restaurant.
We ate at the Ventura East last month and met Atul. The menu is a fusion between Indian with Thai influences. We enjoyed it but we enjoy Indian food.
It is not Indian food as per the usual chicken tikka Masala you get in the takeaways.

But I agree, Cocker, the Orchid menu, in fact the whole experience, was special and it will be such a shame to lose it for something which is basically Indian.

Thanks QB. Will have to find a Chinese in LA to celebrate. Any suggestions close to Beverly Drive.

I enjoyed both the Orchid on Arcadia and East on Ventura. I'm a bit surprised to see this topic. I thought the asian flavour of the month was Sindhu and that was the way both the Orchid and East were going. Not that I'd complain about that as Sindhu is one of my favourite Select Dining options across all the different food styles.

Re: Orchid goes East
Both Ventura East and Azura Sindhu are now Atul Kocher restaurants but have different menus and different regional influences in the menus.
Arcadia is having the same menu as Ventura East and will be called East on Arcadia.
The new ship Britannia is going to have the same menu as Azura and will be called Sindhu.

Thanks Sue. That'll suit us nicely. It's the chef that counts rather than what they call the restaurant.

Re: Orchid goes East
Sorry M&T but it's the menu that counts for us which was the reason for the topic. I had seen Atul's menu for Sindhu where no item would have been palatable for my wife. However the East menu looks not too different to the old Orchid menu which we thoroughly enjoyed several times on our last Arcadia trip to Brisbane.Mervyn and Trish wrote:Thanks Sue. I agree the chef does count - in both ways. He could excel at Atul's menu or ruin it! That's the chance we take! I guess the Ocean Grill is pretty good despite it being MPW inspired. Bring back Gary Rhodes!

Re: Orchid goes East
We were lucky when we ate in East on Ventura as Atul was on board watching over the preparation and cooking. He came round to our table to chat about the menu and our choices.
We enjoy Ocean Grill on Arcadia but still preferred the menu when it was Rhodes. The duck they served in Rhodes was truly orgasmic but Garry tells me that the Sherry Ladd trifle in Ocean Grill has the same affect.

We ate in the Orchid twice when we were on Arcadia last year, and I've got to say both meals were the best I had ever eaten in my life. I was very disappointed to hear the Orchid has gone but looking forwards to trying East on Arcadia in April.

We've dined in both the Orchid on Arcadia and East on Ventura. Much preferred the Orchid as the food was fabulous including the freebee wonton that arrived before the starter which was one of the greatest mouthful's i've ever experienced, truly amazing.
