Best month to go to Fjords
I am looking to book a one week trip to the fjords. Our first cruise was to the fjords in 2004 and we went in June. The weather was quite cold with very little sun.
Is the weather in July and August any better and which do you recommend as most likely to be the best.

Re: Best month to go to Fjords
We have been in both June and July at various times of the months. June is definitely better for the long hours of daylight and would be our choice. The last but one time we were away in late June and temperatures were in the 80s hot and sunny.

I certainly hope it's July because we are going there (and Iceland) this year !
Our one and only previous visit was the first week in July and it was really warm and sunny throughout. We were even up on the Briksdal glacier in shorts and t-shirts

We've been twice in mid to late June, the first time was cool and showery and the second was warm and sunny. I'm not sure it makes much difference, just luck, very like the English summer.

Last time we were there it was August, and I got the feeling that the best of their summer was over. We're hoping that by going a little earlier during the year that the scenery will look a little fresher.
Hope you have a wonderful time, whenever you go.

Luck of the draw I think, we have been probably 6 or 7 times in both June and July and have only once had really good weather.
I always go expecting the worst and anything else is a bonus, makes packing difficult though

We went in July ... wall to wall beautiful clear blue skies with lots of warm sunshine.
Part of our cruise included Iceland where we had about 20 hours of daylight but the mid-day temperature was a balmy eight degrees.
Kindly note therefore that the two places are not that far apart so take a cardie

It must be 15/16 years ago and the first time we did the Fjords that we had excellent weather, I'm almost sure that cruise also took in Iceland and it was sunshine all the way ... never had it since but even our last time we did get a few decent days, not hot hot but not cold either just cool and rainy.

We've only been once late August. Same experience cool, rainy and cloudy. Great views though.

We went this time in may 2 years ago and it was boiling hot everyday, late 70's/early 80's. Even Bergen didn't have any rain.

Thank you all for your comments. Before I started the topic I looked on Google for Weather in the Fjords July and August and it said that temperatures often reached 25 to 30 degrees . This is why I wanted your opinions. Looks from what you all say that you take pot luck and getting good weather is not guaranteed.

Re: Best month to go to Fjords
Hi Anne,
We were told that it rains a lot of the time in Bergen - and it did!
We had good weather enroute to Norway, then a nice day in Stavanger, a warm day in Flaam (but with a tiny tiny weeny threat of light rain at the top of the railway), a lovely day in Olden - ended up taking off our jackets at the Briksdal Glacier! Bergen - showers.
However, the showers stopped when it was sailaway, hence much waving at Aurora!
What we packed for daytime wear was trousers and nice sort of tee shirt tops and some lightweight jackets/fleeces.
Looking forward to going back.
