Films to avoid.

#1

Post by Mr-big-bits-mk2 »

Given that this is such a nice forum i thought it would be a good idea if we let each other know about any 'Lemons' out there in the film world that should be dodged at all costs.

It's well past its cinema run but what ever you do don't waste 2 hours of your life watching.............

What a great thread Mr BB, I don't go to the cinema that often but it will be good to hear what to avoid.

Meeting Evil with Samuel L Jackson and an aliens in Mexico howler called Monsters are two of the biggest pilesof pants to have hit the screen. The worst ever film accolade however must go to the truly awful Night Train to Venice starring Hugh Grant. I defy anyone to watch it and not think :wtf:

Why is this in the games section? If I were me, and I sometimes am, I'd have put it in general chat.

No Stanley Kubrick film should be in this list.

... Because most serious film fans and critics would rate Kubrick very highly and his ouevre should not be recommended to be avoided ...

I think Kubrick pulled the film because of claims of copycat acts.
I must dig this one out, I have probably seen the entire film but never in one sitting.

One should see before one judges, in my opinion.

Kendhni:

Clockwork Orange.

It was only pulled from the UK market and after SK's death his estate allowed for DVD and exhibition release.

Although my least favourite release of his (bar 'Fear & Desire' and 'Killer's Kiss') there remains much merit in the film.

2001: A Space Odyssey is perhaps one of Kubrick's most misunderstood films, but consistently hits "Best Film Lists".

If one considers the visualisation of Sci-Fi in film, 2001 is a touchstone and influenced many by exposing them to the possiblility of what cinema can do.

The American (PG12) - this had the level of sex, full-frontal nudity and swearing that wouldn't even have been given an 18 a few years ago. Coupled with that, it had a very poor ending .. more like, it just stopped.

Sahara - the Clive Cussler book is a cracking story and the film is a semi-reasonable adaptation of the book, but aficionados of Cussler will know the physical characteristics of the two main characters. The film had totally the wrong actors for the characters: Stephen Zahn - s slight blond man, plays the part of a swarthy, barrel-chested Italian.

When I was a kid, I used to eagerly await the Bank Holidays when BBC showed "Disney Time". They would usually show a clip from Fantasia, and I thought that the whole film was dancing hippos (hi Em ;) ) and Mickey Mouse.

When it was re-released a few years ago, I paid something like £7.50 to see it in Leicester Square.

Never have I spent a couple of hours in a cinema looking at my watch thinking, is it time to go yet? Disturbing graphics, silhouettes of an orchestra playing (for me) dreary classical music... I was bored stiff. My boss of the time bought it on VHS to give to his neighbours' children as a gift and decided to watch it first. They got something else for the kids.....
