Dan Brown
I am two nights into the new Dan Brown offering, Inferno. You can currently get it for £6 in Sainsbury's when you spend £30.
OK, I know it is distinctly lowbrow and Brown's books are generally slated by the "critics" as poorly written but I like them anyway. The man certainly knows how to write a fast-paced thriller and I can't wait for bedtime for my next fix !
Dan Brown - love him or hate him ?

Re: Dan Brown
Hate him but I did have a very good chuckle at the following http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/1004 ... Brown.html
Here's a taster
The critics said his writing was clumsy, ungrammatical, repetitive and repetitive. They said it was full of unnecessary tautology. They said his prose was swamped in a sea of mixed metaphors. For some reason they found something funny in sentences such as “His eyes went white, like a shark about to attack.” They even say my books are packed with banal and superfluous description, thought the 5ft 9in man. He particularly hated it when they said his imagery was nonsensical. It made his insect eyes flash like a rocket.

I wouldn't mind being able to write that sort of crap and make half the money he does !

Re: Dan Brown
How can you justify him making the amount of money he does for writing crap and jump up and down like a demented nun on a pogo stick when my Gareth is offered £150,000 a week?

Re: Dan Brown
Dan Brown writes to a formula, but the stories move along quickly and they are an easy read.
They might not be literary fiction, but they are a good holiday read.
However, I have a friend who thinks that the Da Vinci Code is a factual book

There was an interesting programme about the reality - or otherwise - of the Da Vinci Code a few days ago.
Just started reading the new book and already I am gripped.

I know, it's rotten when you come to the end of a book that you have really enjoyed. See, you're not sad at all - or if you are, we both are !

I posted about that on the old P&O board ... if you have been following a series of books and reach the last one there is almost a sense of loss !

I thought you were supposed to be making it last and savouring it. You can have too much excitement in one go you know !! I'm still somewhere around chapter 75

Re: Dan Brown
I read the first three - good stories in themselves. I was reading Angels and Demons and got to the bit about a church in Rome with a hole in the roof to let the demon escape - our excursion took us into that very church the next day!!
