His house in Sandbanks is prime property. Its 'footballers wives' territory on the inner harbour side.

Probably missing Yorkshire nectar - Black Sheep. It's a great brew and nearly as good as Jennings.
Could be. The beer and pubs in East Dorset are not good by comparison to Oop North. You have to get out into the villages to find half decent beer and pubs....unless you like lager, which seems to be the same everywhere.

Last month after a rather splendid lunch repast at the renowned Riverside in West Bay, Dorset (part location for ITV's 'Broadchurch') we drove home via the Isle of Purbeck and used the Sandbanks chain ferry across the entrance to Poole Harbour. There are certainly some remarkable looking 'uber-modern' amazing residences in the very expensive locale of Sandbanks and Canford Cliffs!

Tip of the day.

Dont buy a house in Sandbanks unless you like fine sand blowing in through your windows ... ;)

If you can afford to buy a house in Sandbanks, you can afford to buy windows that shut properly

Throughout Sanbanks and Canford Cliffs, perfectly good houses are being demolished to make way for what Sue and I call 'Footballers wives palaces'. We are often horrified at the demolition of ordinary traditional homes, to make way for these glass palaces. Indeed often they are blocks of flats...whoops sorry to use estateagentese 'penthouse suites and apartments'. There is a whole cultural industry between developers, solicitors, and estate agents with up market sounding names. They all vie with each other to buy up places, and think up dreamy names for the palaces.

Anyway sorry Yorkshire for hijacking your thread.

Since moving to East Yorkshire, I have notices that the locals are unfailingly polite and helpful, humorous and witty.
I have also noticed that the cost of living is much cheaper than the over egged enclaves in the south
My In laws who reside in Surrey came to visit over the bank holiday and were amazed at Yorkshire being such good value for money for petrol, food, drinks prices and the cost of retail therapy
it was heartening to listen to genuine unbiased opinion from real people with no axe to grind and no preconcieved ideas, who are open minded and not post code snobs

Come to Bournemouth and Poole for Post Code snobbery!! No really. Even telephone numbers are recognised cultural symbols in the conurbation, as we found when we moved a couple of miles and kept our old phone number. Lets just say some people recognised the signifcance.

I used to go up the A1 A19 a lot en route for Teesside, and stop off in Wetherby, Thirsk, and up Sutton Bank on one occasion. Also once from Hull via Beverley, Malton and Pickering. Lovely country.

Postcode snobbery? Never heard of such a thing. Is it the same as going out at midnight to collect a new reg car ? It's a sad indictment of some of the human race that there is oneupmanship in a flipping postcode.

Interesting fact about Yorkshire.
It is the only place in the UK were the statutory grave depth is 8 foot rather than 6 foot for the rest of the UK,

YES?

The reason?

Deep down Yorkshire folk are not bad people

Jeeez Soiled Nightie..keep it down...one Lanc like you I can cope with but we don't want the likes of Scouser Scully, that bloke who's still supporting his Italian football team in the Championship and Degsey Kane moving up to dear old Kingston upon Hull....get a grip.
One day P&O will cruise out of the north.....

AOTH

It is as likely for me to move to Kingston-upon-Hull as for me to be next Pope or the Grand Mufti of Cairo.

AOTH: I sailed for 2 years with a Bosun from Hull, "'Ell, 'Ull' and 'Alifax".

MM: Never say never Derek! Get your flat cap and ferrets ready, just in case.

FM

I have two tweed flat caps which I wear when attending game shoots, and whilst ferrets are rather cute to observe I personally do not like the fragrance they emit.

I went to Hull once, for a 9.30am business meeting with an IT software house. Left home (Hampshire) at about 3am and got there at about 7.30am driving at a steady 60mph (with the occasional burst to 70 to overtake a lorry) on the A34, M40, M42/A42, M1 and M18. Best time to travel these days.

Had a wander around the centre of Hull. I like the centres of towns and cities before "they wake-up". Delightful. Had breakfast in a "greasy spoon"

Travelled on to the meeting on an industrial estate, next to the Aunt Bessie's Yorkshire Pudding Factory (other products are also made).

A few weeks later on trying to communicate by phone with my employer's software service providers I could not elicit a response.

A day later I got a phone call explaining that Aunt Bessies had 'blown-up' and they couldn't work that day or a few days later as there had to be a clean-up of their premises due to afore-mentioned explosion.

There was much mirth amongst my mainly southern/London origin colleagues when I passed on the news and that extra slippage by the supplier had been requested as regards service deliverables. We had visions of programmers, analysts, keyboards and printers coated in batter.

Such a story does conjure up a comical scenario in one's head. I once worked at Lyons Bakery and all the swiss rolls were coming along the conveyor belt but we were not back at our stations from the morning break and the sponge was dropping off the end of the belt.

People may be biased about where they live, but the truth is there are wonderful places all over this country.

One iconic establishment in Yorkshire is Bettys. Ideal for a light lunch or afternoon tea. Its like stepping back into the 1930's with the decor and level of service. The decor of the York restaurant was inspired by the art decor of the Queen Mary (the original one)
