Re: Maiden Cruise
Picked up this info from shipcruise.org, ....
"P&O announced that in Spring 2015, the new mv Britannia ship is scheduled to make her first cruise, departing from Southampton, England. The itineraries would take in Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, the Atlantic, and possibly the Caribbean (Transatlantic crossings)."
That does not indicate what the maiden cruise will be, but it would be interesting if they do intend to do roundtrip Caribbean cruises on her, in which case we might well be interested.

Re: Maiden Cruise
We did the maiden on the royal princess and were disappointed. It was just like any other cruise, nothing special, although we kept being told we were making history. The trouble was she had done a couple of pre-maidens andi think more was made then. We didn't even have an escort down Southampton Water. All cruise we kept waiting for something special but nothing happened - the gift was a photo of the ship signed by the captain. We had such high expectations of doing a maiden but were bitterly disappointed. The only advantage was that the ship did not sail full in order to give the crew the opportunity to get up to speed.

Re: Maiden Cruise
My guess is that the Maiden will be a Canaries cruise. My hope is that it will be a Caribbean TA. If it is a Med or Northern cruise we will give the maiden a miss and wait for the warmer weather.

Re: Maiden Cruise
Hope you're right. We've yet to do a West Med cruise so that would suit nicely.

I managed to avoid the grand event I'm sure I will be able to avoid the maiden voyage of Britannia, I would be like princess Michael, and go to the opening of a mc donalds if it was free

17th march
22nd April
24th June

Typical P & O med cruise in March. No thank you we will wait for a warmer cruise to try Britannia.

Re: Maiden Cruise
A maiden voyage with a call at Gibraltar on 17th March would suit me very well
It's my birthday on March 15th, so I'd be on board for my birthday.

Re: Maiden Cruise
Would suit us too, especially the West Med, which we've never done, though it is of course possible that the March call is on the way into Southampton from the builders in Italy.
Realistically if the Maiden is to be in March/April, there are only a limited number of possibilities. Out and back Carribean would take too long, as would anything heading to the warmer southern hemisphere. Any sort of cruise and fly back is unlikely as it would leave the ship in the wrong place for a Southampton based summer season, the norm for new P&O ships. Baltic and Fjords too cold (and dark) until late May/June. So that only really leaves the Med or Canaries.

Yes, I was wondering that too.Mervyn and Trish wrote:though it is of course possible that the March call is on the way into Southampton from the builders in Italy.
.
Still, 22nd April would be acceptable too, and slightly warmer. Our last Western Med cruise was in 2006, so we are due for another one. In 2006 we sailed on 29th April and had some lovely weather

I doubt that it will have a Caribbean cruise for its maiden voyage in case it breaks down…. !

LOL. Not to mention putting the noses out of those loyal P&O customers from the South, South East, and South West.Ray Scully wrote:What a marketing coupe if Brittania's maiden cruise was from Liverpool to Hull via Ireland, and the Isle of Man and Scottish ports. They could then run a cheapie for the Yorkshire folk from Hull to Southampton
This would make it extremely attractive to northern cruisers and perhaps show a little commitment to all those loyal P&O customers from the Midlands North.
