All change for 2016

#1

Post by CaroleF »

Well after our original booking to go to the Amazon on Adonia in 2016 plans have been changed. We did manage to get our flights changed from Manchester to Gatwick but then on meeting some friends who had been right up the Amazon my husband decided that as the cruise we were on only went part of the way he would rather change to a different cruise and perhaps do a South America cruise later on - probably with someone like Princess who seem to have more choices as far as South American cruises are concerned.

Anyway we then had the "Which cruise shall we change to" conversation. Eventually it came down to a compromise and we have changed to D606 which is the Transatlantic cruise on Adonia going from the Caribbean back to Southampton. This includes a stop at Bequia which we visited on our very first cruise and is a lovely little island, then after leaving the Caribbean it goes to Miami, Jacksonville, Charleston, Bermuda and then across the Atlantic via Ponta Delgada to Southampton. It will be the third time we've done a Transatlantic but our first time visiting the American ports. We loved our Baltic Cruise on Adonia so look forward to being on her again - only 14 months to go!

Sounds a very nice trip, Carole, although we did love our Amazon cruise. We only went as far as Manaus, which was as far as Arcadia (the old one)could go then. Our daughter has done the trip right down from Columbia, but that was in a hammock on a three tier boat - and sleeping in a hammock with primitive toilet facilities for four days doesn't appeal to me

I did indeed Carole ... tis a pity they are missing that Port out, a memorable destination for sure.

Charleston, however, is also very nice and the local guides have a delightful ' Southern drawllll '

Hi Carole,
We are also on this cruise, D606. We haven't done a TA or Adonia yet so both are new experiences for us. Some interesting destinations on this cruise also.
We are doing the Baltic for the first time this year also.

It's surprising how many cruises we can get on since retiring.

Hi June, glad someone else is on the cruise. We've done two TAs on Azura returning from the Caribbean and it was so wonderful not having that night flight back and landing at Gatwick at 4.30am which we did following our last overnight flight. We've been lucky and had sun most of the way back, in fact a year ago we were still sat out on the balcony in fairly hot sun the day before we arrived in Southampton.

We love Adonia - only been on her once but we really liked the decor, the fact that you could get from A to B without walking miles, and the friendliness of everyone on board. No she doesn't have as many entertainment venues but we thought the Adonia Players were superb and we had two afternoon plays on sea days which were great. We also liked the fact that the dining times are 15 mins earlier than usual so second sitting for us was at 8.15 - doesn't seem very much but it really did make a difference. Hope you like Adonia as much as we do.

Carole, we are also on this cruise. Flying from Manchester to Barbados. There is another thread somewhere possibly in the Meeting place area.

We also like the Adonia and prefer the more intimate cruising experience.
