Web cams

Post by Big Bob »

Anyone got any idea what P&O are up to with their web cams? Today Ventura is shown as at sea but the web cam has her tied up in port. I have noticed this on a number of occasions with different ships and cannot come up with an explanation.

Sometimes I think they go out of satellite range and it freezes on the last picture. Other times I suspect it's an IT glitch

It’s also possible Merv that PanDo’s shadow board of directors have voted unanimously to bomb Ventura. :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

On our recent Canary cruise, Arcadia was shown as never leaving Greece and the webcam view was the same every day, according to my friend who tried to tarck us.

They've been all over the place lately. On the positional map yesterday, Arcadia was shown in the Med whilst she was halfway across the BoB on the way to Madeira and there were hardly any webcam images up for any of the fleet. Better not to bother at all than get it so wrong so often.

Are you all saying that it wasn't the old forum that caused P&O's IT problems after all? :sarcasm:

Probably - we're a bit like AOL. Once we are in the system, you can't get us out !!

It's probably all those people doing ridiculous things on the website like trying to book cruises. Customers get in the way all the time.

I suppose it couldn't be that the software is rubbish ?!

MM. My understanding is that a web cam is supposed to be live. Azura is in Barbados but the web cam still shows Grenada! I can only conclude that the live bit of technology has broken and it ain't going to get fixed. So in that case why not stop pretending, come clean and close the service?

Arcadia is still shown as somewhere around Croatia, even though she's a day out of Madeira! I know they are at the mercy of the reception for the live images but surely it is not beyond the wit of man to get the positioning right !?

I use Marine Traffic. Their app is quite useful and shows all the vessels within vhs range of shore and their tracks together with recent and destination ports.

I agree QBob, a good app, though just occasionally ships go out of range on that too, but fun nonetheless

(And of course if the ship you're looking for is out of range, well what can I say - other ships are available! )

Not always BB. Some webcams are real time live. Some update periodically, say every 5 minutes. Looks like P&O's are the latter, updating once a fortnight! :sarcasm:

We look at the webcams on most days. If you open webcams and let it populate, then press CTRL and F5 together, it refreshes the picture and seems to display the latest ones

The P&O Magic gets stronger turning day into night. Ships showing as being in Europe are showing darkness. Is there any limit to P&O's ability to mess with time. Could it be that they are experimenting with time travel as the next big cruise. If so I will be on the Victorian visit.

It's on the port cam.

Thanks Ray

Can just see the back end now, assuming that is Iona.
