Queen Elizabeth - ship's visit

#1

Post by Silver_Shiney »

At £50 pp, this seems expensive compared to other lines who charge only £25, however we decided that this would be our Christmas present to each other and to my mum. Besides, you'd easily pay £50 each for a day out with a good dinner.

We turned up at the Mayflower terminal a few minutes ahead of time and, after taking advantage of the free car parking, were invited straight into the departure lounge to await a check-in desk becoming available. After about 10 minutes, we were called forward and went through normal procedures except for presenting our credit cards, and then told to go to the cafe at the other end of the lounge for complementary tea, coffee and biscuits.

At the expected time, we were called forward into our small groups for boarding.

We were taken around a selection of staterooms of every grade and then round the various public areas. We thought the decorations to be akin to an old country club and, personally, I think it's a lot grander than the QM2 - and that ship is lovely! The atmosphere was more intimate. It was nice seeing Christmas decorations up, which were everywhere but very tastefully done.

The 3-course lunch, with wine, was excellent, with three choices per course.

We are very much looking forward to our 4-night cruise to Hamburg next month.

She is a lovely ship, and - just my personal opinion - Queen Victoria is even nicer.

How did you find out about this? I would love to do a Cunard ship visit. We were lucky enough to do one on Britannia in August which led to our cancelling our booked cruise on her. I'm so glad we saw her before we sailed on her.

Sounds like a good day out:) we live too far away so can't try the ship visits.

Is this the 6-10th Jan? We are mulling over booking it ourselves.

Hi Silver_Shiney, we meet twice in one afternoon.

I did a Queen Elizabeth visit some years ago and thought it an excellent idea.

I was, however, part of the Silver Travel hosting team and while I didn't need to pay for the visit, neither was I given the opportunity of a discount/refund on booking a future cruise.

Did they make the offer on your visit?

Here is my review of the visit...

Hi Richard

We were indeed offered the opportunity of getting a preferential rate on a future cruise but as we'd already booked and paid for the Hamburg trip, we didn't follow it up. I don't recall any mention of a refund though....
