Re: PO tips increase
If this is indeed the case that a list of 'non tipping 'passengers is listed in the Crew room, then surely this can only come from Reception/Purser.? In which case it is a flagrent breach of Confidentiality.Manoverboard wrote: ↑19 May 2017, 16:49They know your name(s) so they will simply keep the details and wait until your next cruise ...
I saw the idea of a list being put up on a Trip Advisor Forum.Right or not ive no idea.

Re: PO tips increase
I was on CMV Columbus the other week. On the last night we were leaving the dining room, and the computer screen at the podium was unlocked. Being fairly nosy, I glanced at it and saw a file called 'Passengers with Zero Gratuities'.
I know it's not P&O, but it indicated that they knew who'd removed the auto-gratuities

Re: PO tips increase
Fred Olsen charged us £8 ( £4 for Cabin + £4 for Table ) per person per day for our recent cruise ... they were posted to our Account a few days into the cruise.
ps ... I believe that the staff are ' entitled ' to know who has and who has not paid their gratuities ... There is NO reason, imo, to remove them on day one other than premeditated avoidance.
I would certainly wish to know in order that I could spend far less time making any effort to please the tight wads. If however one day's gratuities were removed because I had failed to clean the shower properly then I would work harder for them to make up for my own shortcomings.

Re: PO tips increase
How would they know whether or not you intended tipping in envelopes at the end of the cruise?

Re: PO tips increase
When hopefully with everyone paying there would be less of a requirement to increase it.

Got to agree Merv and Ray, it just seems to be the only ' Fair ' way of doing it, really cant understand why P&O dont or wont do it.

Just a thought and no doubt I will get shot down. BUT IMHO those who stiff the crew (don't pay the tips) are more than likely to be those who don't subscribe to other aspects of the rules of etiquette i.e controlling your kids, adhering to the suggested dress code. not getting drunk and fighting, and generally respecting your fellow cruisers.
Oh dear did I type that

The thing is Ray that as you suggested in your first post non payers don't stiff the crew. Instead over time the auto tips increase so those who pay subsidise the meanies. That's why I'd like crew wages to be increased and included in the price with then no expectation of further tips

Re: PO tips increase
That is my attitude as well. I used to tip extra but now I just use auto tipping. I have occasionally handed out extra if I believe they have gone above and beyond such as our cabin steward Stefan on our last cruise on Britannia.
However I also agree with a earlier comments that once a cruise is booked then the amount of auto-tip should not be changed - any changes are only made in relation to new bookings.

Re: PO tips increase
Because it would increase the headline price and maybe look unfavourable against other lines who don't add the tips on but I agree, a compulsory charge would be best

Re: PO tips increase
At todays rate of £6 pppn that only equates to £84 on the price of a 14 Nt cruise, would that amount really put people off booking if they knew that it had taken away the problem.?

Re: PO tips increase
...and as a marketing tool, I am sure that a perceived benefit of tips included would outweigh that of £100 OBC

Re: PO tips increase
And on most cruises that is less that the OBC - so just reduce the OBC, include tips and the price stays the same - simples!

Re: PO tips increase
That's an excellent plan, Raimondo. Just sell the cruises as "all gratuities included" and reduce the OBC accordingly. I'm in !Ray Scully wrote: ↑14 Sep 2017, 13:26...and as a marketing tool, I am sure that a perceived benefit of tips included would outweigh that of £100 OBC
