Azura revisited

#1

Post by Bruce Wayne »

it is a while since we have been on Azura, the last cruise we did was the "Grand event". I have heard there have been changes to things like dress code, no jacket required nights now and also something called grab and go ,which I understand is a self service thing on deck? I am also led to believe that the cost of automatic tips have increased by 10%

any feedback on recent azura cruises and any of the above will be welcomed

You're right Bruce. Welcome to the Forum by the way.

Yes the dress code is simplified now. Typically on a fortnight's cruise 4 black tie nights and 10 smart casual. So no scruff or string vests on the latter, but smart denim is allowed and definitely no jacket or tie required - though depending on my mood I'll occasionally wear a jacket as do some others. But it's very definitely optional. And of course you can dodge the black ties by eating at the buffet on those nights, though most still take part and enjoy the ambience. (If you still don't fancy it of course, as someone once said, other cruise lines are available!

Grab and go I think started with Britannia and has spread across the fleet. Simple things such as bagettes, wraps, salads in plastic containers etc served, as it says on the tin - Grab and Go.

Auto tips now £5.50 pp pd.

Hope that helps and maybe you'll be on board again soon. Anything you fancy in particular?

We are on Azura for the first time in summer.

Are there any "not to be missed" places/items/events on the ship ?

The Epicurean
Don't order the Wild Boar loin though, its as tough as old rope but lacks its flavour.

All of the above plus the special night in the Glasshouse where they pair wines with a menu of dishes from the Epicurean. Not widely publicised though.

BTW, apologies Bruce. Colin is right, tips are now £6. Went up just after our last cruise. Hope that doesn't put you off P&O and make you choose Thomson instead.

we are booked for a cheap week to the fjords at the end of May and have booked both Sindhu and the afternoon tea thing
we may well try the glasshouse if the MDR menus are not to our liking
