Do they deliver David.
Better had or they will be getting a large bill for collecting it!

David, you have my utmost admiration for your stoicism in what must have been a horrendous situation. It just makes me wonder how some of the aged passengers you see would manage in a similar situation.
Colin is correct.

In our case we were lucky and Ken was not offloaded but I was feeling very worried/panicky about how we would cope if he was. One of the things I did immediately we got home was to increase the credit limit on our credit card as it only had a small limit initially and also got a separate one. We also put a fair bit of money on our pay as you go phones.

The other thing is we now tend to travel with friends rather than just the two of us as this provides me (the worrier) with a certain amount of moral support.

We also take a copy of my husband's prescription/ a weeks extra supply of his tablets plus insurance documents and his IPad.

I learned very early on always to pack his tablets in my handbag when a suitcase didn't arrive in our cabin until late one evening.

Are there any other suggestions that you learned, David, from a difficult situation like yours which would help others?

When I get time later I will start a new topic about it.

Conclusion

Adonia is a lovely ship and it is a pity that they cannot upsize it to the larger ships - but having said that it is probably not what a lot of people actually want. The suites (did I mention we had a suite?) are probably the best of any on P&O ships - they are humongous!

The food is pretty much the same as when we cruised last year but seemed to be more variable. For example one night was Beef Wellington and my steak was perfect (for me) but the next night when there was Fillet Medallions the steak was nowhere near as good.

The entertainment was, being Adonia, somewhat limited and I don't think that P&O have quite got the balance right as they are trying to put on scaled down versions of the full shows whereas they really need to tailor the type of entertainment to the venue.

I don't think that I need to go into any more detail about the medical facilities - this was the first time I set foot in them and, hopefully, the last.

Would I cruise on Adonia again - yes, but only on a short cruise - I still think that she is too small for us for anything longer than a week.

Right I shall wait and see what happens with the case tonight/tomorrow and get ready to do battle with the insurance company on Monday.

David, what a nightmare, thank goodness it wasn't anywhere even more difficult to get home from. I have one of those Omron bp machines too. My GP gave up trying to take my BP when I was in the surgery and she suggested I get one and when it comes near to the time for my prescription to be renewed I do a couple of weeks readings and submit it to her with my prescription renewal request, seems to work well.
We have done 17 nights on Adonia, also in a suite and yes aren't they huge - puts the Azura/Ventura ones to shame and have you ever seen so much wardrobe and drawer space!
It's certainly a warning to everyone to make sure they have adequate travel insurance to cover any such eventualities.

Sorry to hear you had to cut your cruise short. Good to hear that your wife has recovered and that your case is on its way to you.

I'm so glad all turned out well

As you say, what a potential nightmare for the ultra-aged, the single traveller, the 'cared-for' cruiser when the fit companion falls down in a heap

One little point - on our account the auto tip service charge was automatically adjusted for the number of nights that we were not on the ship. In some ways I think that it was a bit mean for the staff as it was not their fault, but on the other hand if it was a much longer cruise then it could be quite a lot of money.

Are you telling us that you didn't bother to find the time to give the cabin steward, dining room stewards and the wine waiter a thank you envelope before you got off ?

Shame on you :o

Did you ever find a reason for the high blood pressure or was it just brought on by the sight of the doctor, or the thought of his bill?

Yes, we do know the cause - and the doctor was a she!
