Cancelled this year's

#1

Post by barney »

We've decided to cancel this years cruise in June and have changed it to May 2019.

A bit disappointing but we have building work going on and I'm not confident about going away and leaving them to it.

The first project (the drive) is already a week behind schedule because of the deluge of rain down here in the West Country. They are so far behind on their current job that he is estimating mid February now and that is with a fair wind.
The bathroom guy starts on the 19th Feb so that cannot clash or it will be chaos.
The kitchen is supposed to be March with the new extension starting in mid May ??
That is ofcourse assuming the builder has finished his previous project.

The last house I bought in Kent was a new build and I really had forgotton about the trials and tribulations of employing builders etc.

So, the holiday is off !
We are hoping for a decent summer in the UK
We are now only a few hundred yards from Instow beach so we can always pretend we are in the Med.
Empty vessels .. and all that

I can't say I blame you Barney. For peace of mind, I wouldn't be comfortable in leaving them to it.

If it's any consolation, we've had plenty of wet weather in the Garden of England

Barney, I think you have done the right thing otherwise it could turn into a stressful holiday instead of a relaxing break. You live in a lovely area and a few day trips out (when it is sunny) can be just as enjoyable. Hopefully, things will get back on track soon.

We have friends that always go away while any building work, or major renovations such as kitchen, bathrooms etc are being done, and they come back to it all complete. Maybe I am a control freak, I probably am, but I could NEVER, EVER do that, so I am completely with you, better to postpone. You can always pick up a last minute cruise later in the year if you want.

Good luck with all the work.

Sorry to hear about the cancellation Barney - I assume you didnt lose too much money as you booked again?

Here's hoping for a sunny Devon - especially when you're cooking outside!

So am I, we're down again mid June.

I'm with you barney, it would be on my mind and stressing me out the whole time if we were away.

I didn't lose my deposit but paid an extra hundred to move it by a year. The new holiday is slightly cheaper than the original but my TA sorted it and P and O were fine with it. I must admit I was surprised because of their terms and conditions that forbid this. Seems they are human after all :shh:

barney: cancel getting the drive done until the builders have all finished, or you will be forever yelling to them to mind the drive when they are mixing up cement or digging all the foundation mud up. not to mention the skips have to be parked somewhere!! just a thought
regards gilly.
