Travel Insurance - Revisited

#1

Post by david63 »

After my minor incident in September I had to follow it up with my GP. The outcome is that I have a very mild heart defect that requires no treatment, no medication and no follow up. In other words I am basically 99% OK.

So being the honest soul that I am I phoned the travel insurance to declare this condition as we have an annual policy and we are cruising in March - the policy has about three months still to go before renewal. So I answer all the questions and he says that there will be an additional premium to pay (which I was expecting) of £800+ (which I was not expecting). Needless to say I told him what to do with his policy - went online and found a single trip policy with all medical conditions accepted for just over £100.

Are these insurance companies trying to rip me off - no don't answer that!

I think so David. I have insurance via a bank account. When I was diagnosed with heart problems last year I reported them to my insurer and had a surcharge of £100 for the year's cover. I reported that I had had open heart surgery but the £100 still covered me so not as bad as I had anticipated. It may be time to have a hunt around.
You didn't tell them you knew Mob, Stephen and OL did you?

I have one every time I look in my wallet. :D

I do wonder how some of these insurance companies stay in business with they're extortionate pricing. Like David said you do the right thing and declare everything and they still try and rip you off.

Our annual travel insure is also due soon so I'll be in for another grilling over the phone and no doubt have to stump up some sort of additional premium. But I always shop around first, as you do.

I was diagnosed with a heart electrical conduction anomaly about 15 months ago, and our bank refused to cover me as they had the previous 20+ years. I found Saga to be good, though not cheap, and used them, however after a year of no symptoms, the bank accepted me once again, so back to free insurance once more 👍

Heart conditions and cancer are the worst things for travel insurance.
Over the past few years I paid a small fortune in Iimsurwnce to enable me to cruise.
My choice to cruise but as my consultant said that chances of me being taken ill due to cancer whilst on holiday is extremely small compared to a heart condition.

Still the good news is now that I still declare it but did not get charged for it.
I had a health scare in December as I was recalled from a routine scan, it turned out fine in the end, but I was worried sick whilst s whilst waiting to be seen again.
I do keep to world first or insurewith as they offer good policies which are more tailored than some other companies.

I am unable to connect securely to ' insurancewith ' either … message displayed is ;

" Can’t connect securely to this page

This might be because the site uses outdated or unsafe TLS security settings. If this keeps happening, try contacting the website’s owner.

Your TLS security settings aren’t set to the defaults, which could also be causing this error.

Do you have their phone number, please ?

Sorry about that.
They do a cruise extension approx £9 which covers you for any missed port of calls and cabin confinement due to the dreaded virus. I also pay approx £9 to have the excess removed just in case i need to make a small clam.

Messages like the one above can occur if you are using a computer with an old operating system (e.g. Windows XP) or an old version of your browser.
