Milano is best visited on a Monday cos the shops in ( you’ll not see any prices here ) the ‘ Galleria ‘ are shut.

Are you thinking it will be less crowded or are you in credit card protection mode ?

It was far less crowded for us, on that particular Monday, and it's a great place to window shop for the sort of things that most people simply cannot afford. The high end Brand names on display are not for the faint hearted ... and ' Yes ' my cards were left in the safe for their own protection ;).

A trip to Portofino for us from Santa Margherita on a dangerously overcrowded bus.

We, on the other hand, sat off Portofino in Princess Royal and went to Santa Margherita by boat.

ps ... we waved to ' Wayyyyyne ' ( as in Roon ) en-route :o

Further up the coast just past Genoa is Savona, it was the Port where our very first cruise sailed from. It was at Christmas time and the road from Torino had more snow on it at that moment than the Alps 8-)

I think Portofino is a tender port which would prevent us going ashore, but as long as we are anchored in the bay then it looks such a pretty place that would probably be worth a visit.

It is deffo a tender Port, when we were anchored in the Bay I would advise that we couldn't see Portofino at all and even then not until we turned a corner in the tender and got up real close. It is very pretty but more so from a distance, it can be a tad tacky close up but the aurora of the place is wonderful overall, imo.

ps ... have you downloaded any pics yet ?

We were due to go back to Santa Margherita on our 5th June 2020 cancelled cruise. I don't think we would have risked the local bus again to get to Portofino. They don't half pack people in on Italian buses. It was the same when we caught a bus in La Spezia to Port Venere. Another hideous trip around twisting and turning roads with nose to nose contact or in our case, as we are short, nose to armpit.

We'll delay departure tomorrow so those of you who want to visit Portofino may do so.

Looking forward to seeing all your photos.

Sunday evening we'll head off to Nice.

We called in to Nice on what I think was our first cruise back in the late 90/early 2000s. We were on a small Thomson ' boat' (tub) but we thoroughly enjoyed it. All I can remember is walking along the Promenade des Anglais and being disappointed with the grey looking beach as we have lovely sandy beaches on the Isle of Wight. I know we crossed the road to look around a flower market and that was about as brave as we were. I couldn't wait to get back on the boat. I can't remember if we took any photos and would have no idea where they would be but look forward to seeing any that others can provide.

Maureen.

We spent several nights in Monaco during an extensive Coach Tour of France, we visited Nice but were disappointed. After a quick look see we boarded a boat for a ride round the Bay. We also visited Grasse and St Paul De Vence, both are within easy reach of Nice and were far more interesting.

Today we have boarded an early train for Menton and after that a taxi to the hilltop village of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin before returning by train to Monte Carlo and then back to Nice.

Instead of visiting the Royal Palace in Monaco you could have frittered your money away here in the posh hotel and the Casino.

Bit of a delay in Monte Carlo so popped in to pay one's respects to the love birds that were Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly.
