It's Amsterdam today and a long time since we were there so I feel sure it will be a lot different today. We actually stayed in Harlem, a really pleasant suburb of Amsterdam and interesting in its own rite. Whilst there we visited Keukenhof and the bulb fields, something I can thoroughly recommend as being truly breathtaking. I can do a few pics as 'bulbs is bulbs' no matter what year it is!!!
I am now handing over to Cap'n Mob and his merry bunch of matelots for Amsterdam and Bruges (again somewhere we visited donkeys years ago!!)

We have been to Amsterdam on three separate occasions. The first time the weather was so bad that we had to dock in Rotterdam and be coached into Amsterdam. We had booked a tour to visit a clog factory and a windmill, in addition we had a traditional Dutch meal in a nice restaurant and a canal boat tour. No pics from the canal boat because we couldn’t see out of the steamed up rain lashed windows :(

The second time I could only stare out of the window and wonder what we missed this time cos I was quarantined with the dreaded Noro for the duration of our visit :(

Our third visit was on a Saga Riverboat, the weather was mixed but we did have nice-ish days to tip-toe in the tulips and to ride the canals in Amsterdam.

If I read this section's itinerary correctly the next and last port on this leg is Bruges where I shall re-embark (if permitted !)

I suggest from there we head off up the east coast of the UK with maybe a few unusual ports to Scotland and the Scottish Isles then back down the west coast, towards Liverpool, across to Ireland via IOM, back over to Bristol, and finally back round to Southampton where this epic voyage can complete.

Ideas for ports on this next sector please.

Thank you to our Deputy Captains who have steered us around Scandinavia and the Baltic.

We now head for home taking an anti-clockwise route around the British Isles.

So here is the proposed itinerary :

Dover
Harwich
Lowestoft
Grimsby
Whitby
Berwick on Tweed
Leith for Edinburgh
Dundee
Aberdeen
* Scrabster for Wick and John O'Groats
* Invergordon for Inverness
Lerwick (Shetlands)
Kirkwall (Orkneys)
Stornaway
Jig (Skye)
Oban
Belfast
Douglas (IOM)
Dublin
Holyhead
Fishguard
Falmouth
Southampton

Ports marked * added to your list

So, next port : Dover
.

We had a weeks holiday in the area many moons ago and went by bus to look at Harwich and Felixstore but it has changed a tad, the fishing boats were the big boys back then

We sailed out of Harwich once and it was good. We arrived at the port, unloaded our luggage and parked the car at the dockside. It was all very convenient and straightforward.............. and in those days there was a band!!!

Lowestoft ... Hmmm

We were on our honeymoon and arrived like a couple of cool dudes in our Blake's Cruise Ship for two. Secured the boat and went for a look see at their theatre etc, Joe Brown had the ' star ' billing I recall. Not much there apart from amusement arcades and cafes we decided but fine to pass an hour or two. Shock horror somebody had stolen our cruiser ... oh, no, the tide had gone out but we had no idea at that time that sea levels fluctuated to that extent. Only one thing to do and that was to jump off the quayside onto the boat albeit with fingers crossed that we didn’t go through the boards, we have never returned to Lowestoft. Sorry no pics 8-)
