The Repair Shop
Are there any other fans of this programme out there?
What a change it makes to get away from Covid, Brexit, American politics, the economy and all other trials and tribulations to sit back and enjoy the skills of these craftsmen. And how lovely it is to see traditional crafts and techniques being employed to restore seemingly hopeless artefacts back to near pristine condition. I envy them the space, the facilities, the equipment they use but the level of their expertise is simply wonderful. And the camaraderie and humour which exists between the team is wonderful.
What a lovely hour away from the rigours of lockdown and depressing news.

Steve is amazing with his two pairs of glasses. He is fascinating the way he is not always sure how something works but studies the piece and proceeds to take it apart. What a beautiful little lathe he has to produce the finest little things!!!
Sonnaz is nice too.............!!!
Barney is right. There are some clever b****rs on there!!!

I don’t specifically tune in to watch it but have seen several of them and enjoy them. I thought the lady who repaired the pouffe did a fantastic job.

Yes one of our favourites. Nice feel good programme with some lovely stories behind the restoration projects.

Love it - I’ve watched it from the very beginning and never fail to be amazed at the skills of the team. I also enjoy the programme where the presenters pick up items from the skips and do them up - nice easy programmes to watch.

Re: The Repair Shop
I believe that I have recorded every available episode, we still have quite a number to watch but we both always enjoy them. The Julia's House Doll's House rebuild was of particular significance to us but many of them are quite touching.

Re: The Repair Shop
I think the current situation has directed us towards more homely shows. I certainly have not fancied watching any action movies etc. We enjoyed C5’s All Creatures remake -despite having dismissed the original as saccharine-( folly of youth?). My wife has enjoyed the Dale’s farming family and I think has watched repeats. For truly awe inspiring viewing I must mention The Wall which I inadvertently tuned into on Sat evening. Speechless!
We do enjoy the reruns of Rumpole on Talking Pictures. We have the complete box set somewhere but there is something of the ‘occasion’ about broadcast rather than DVD.
And to get back on track I have enjoyed the restoration program.

Can't stand Danny Dyer (his voice is so monotone and dull), but in spite of that enjoy the show. Where else on prime time family tv could you keep shouting "drop 'em" and get away with it?

The moment I hear Danny Dyer say 'the waaaaaw' I switch over. He grates on my tender northern ears!!!
We have been recording Allo Allo as a bit of light relief. It's totally daft but a bit of silly entertainment.

Fantastic show. Although I always wonder have they ever dropped or damaged something beyond repair.

Re: The Repair Shop
Wondered the same myself.
I thought if they ever give anything back, just saying nah ! Couldn’t fix it.
Mrs B knows what a calamity I can be, from blowing myself up with a bonfire (yep, petrol) to cutting off the power to the garage while digging.
Empty vessels .. and all that

What an incredible job that lady made of the teapot with the cat's head. So skilful.
Does anybody remember dear old Barry Bucknell? Would he be a forerunner do you think?

Wasn’t he behind the Mirror dinghy? Recall the name but I think he was just before my tv watching time. ( or perhaps after my tv watching time i.e. after my bed time )

Barry Bucknell, it does ring a bell ... could fix almost anything with 4" x 2" offcuts ?oldbluefox wrote: ↑29 Oct 2020, 10:03... Does anybody remember dear old Barry Bucknell? Would he be a forerunner do you think?

Re: The Repair Shop
You are right, he was. It was an ugly looking thing with a flat bow but quick and easy to construct and an ideal dinghy for beginners. After that little bath tub it was good to move up to the Enterprise. I just wish I could have done more sailing.

Re: The Repair Shop
Here's a challenge for them. Merv's wallet.
The hinges are rusted to bu99ery, the key to the Chubb padlock is lost and the blast proof casing is showing signs of several opening attempts of explosive damage
