further cancellations. anyone for a British isles cruise?
they have announced today further cancellations. August and September cruises will be not sailing. but there is talks of running cruises around the British isles instead, apparently there will be further details later. will they stop? or will it be purely a pleasure cruise around the seas? would any of you want to go? ....personally I think I would pass on these, as i reckon the restrictions will be too harsh. also no guarantee that Scotland ports would let them dock.
regards gilly.

There is no way that I will spend five hours driving down to Southampton to spend two days sailing back up the coast to pass our house (not literally) only to repeat the return journey all for a week's cruise (in the rain!)

Would you have to take their excursion rather than get off on your own.
Personally I would rather not cruise this year.

they haven't released precise details yet Lindsey, but they also have not even said that they will stop at all! I agree that if you live in the north or Scotland, it might be a bit of a bus mans holiday. they could probably go and water their plants whilst they were up there.

The consensus view is that these will be sea days only cruises, with no ports of call. P&O will announce dates, prices and on board experience later this month.

That would make sense.
Wonder what the prices will be like.
I suppose the crew will also have to be vaccinated .

sounds grim - incarcerated on a ship rather than a 'front room'. I was hoping that since it was the UK people would be able to get off and mingle not even just on an organised tour

Princess have also announced cancellations up to end of Sept for Southampton cruises and said that they will be doing some ex Southampton cruises late summer for UK passengers only. Details to follow

Yes, we had an email this evening notifying us of the cancellation of our Princess cruise to Spitsbergen in June this year. This was a cruise we had booked using credits from the same cruise that was cancelled last June which itself was booked using credits from our Sydney to Singapore cruise that was cut short in February last year.Chalgrave4 wrote: ↑03 Mar 2021, 21:59Princess have also announced cancellations up to end of Sept for Southampton cruises and said that they will be doing some ex Southampton cruises late summer for UK passengers only. What’s to do? We can transfer our booking to the same cruise next year but that would be only five weeks after we get back from our trans Pacific cruise in April and May. There is one to north Norway in August next year but our credits are so complicated that I haven’t got a clue what we are entitled to.

Personally I’m not even thinking about cruising this year. Our couple of booked UK based holidays will do us.

Same for me Stephen.
Had 4 nights booked for Warners in early June and have just pushed that back a bit to July so I can have both jabs before travelling.
Not even thinking of cruising this year, but will be interested to hear how it all works out.2 booked for 2022 but to be honest I think I'm coming away from cruising, and I never thought that would be me. Am seriously interested in Titans land tours.

Lindsey, it depends where you fancy going on land tours, but if you are thinking long haul then we would certainly recommend Saga. We did two S. American tours with them, Peru, including Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca and the Amazon, and Chile, Argentina and Brazil taking in the Argentine lakes, Iguazu falls, Buenos Aries and Rio. They are not the cheapest but we they offer top quality service throughout, and a high proportion of the meals were included.Whynd1 wrote: ↑04 Mar 2021, 08:01Same for me Stephen.

Saga and Titan are one and the same Company these days ... just saying.
With Titan we did nearly 20 tours, mainly North America and Europe. Their Hotels can be a bit basic but they are good value and will pick up and drop at your home or indeed any other place that suits. Insight Vacations is the best of the bunch but they are very expensive, I used to participate in the development of their Euro tours although they are a global operation.

I had forgotten that Moby, however although the same owner I suspect that Saga are the premium brand and Titan somewhat cheaper and lower quality.Manoverboard wrote: ↑04 Mar 2021, 10:20Saga and Titan are one and the same Company these days ... just saying.

We've never done a Saga land holiday but very much enjoyed Spirit of Discovery last year. Our neighbour used to use Titan and reckoned they were good. My brother did a two-centre Caribbean holiday with Saga and reckoned one hotel was excellent but the other not great.
When we did our Discovery trip we used the included transfer. Our driver said Saga gained that service when they bought Titan, but she had heard rumours within the company they were looking to sell off Titan. Her view was that Saga was the premium brand.

If it's anything like their cruises then you need deep pockets.

Re: further cancellations. anyone for a British isles cruise?
That very much depends on what you want and when you book. Their pricing structure is more transparent than most. There is a price which is initially discounted by 35% at launch, with the discount reducing as the ship fills. There is a guarantee of money back if it ever falls below what you paid (which it never does!). But it includes a lot which is extra with many others. The includes chauffeur transport and from the ship (or parking if you prefer), gratuities, wi-fi, drinks, insurance (or a deduction if you have your own), specialist dining reservations and, currently, included excursions. We would normally spend £50 plus each day on those extras, but on our cruise last year our on board account was exactly nil.
And of course they are small ships, 1000 capacity, so that's what you need to compare them with.
So we, like you, though they looked pricey. But when it came down to it we spent pretty much the same overall as we would have done elsewhere and thought the product was excellent, so we will be back sometime.

Re: further cancellations. anyone for a British isles cruise?
We did just the one Saga trip on a Riverboat and it was rubbish compared to Viking which is of course far more expensive. At the end of the day they all take you to the same places and it's simply a matter of deciding how much you want to pay to get there.
Based on reviews on here I would deffo book a Saga cruise on one of their new ships but only because we prefer small ships for the smaller Ports.

We now have 5 cruises cancelled - we have transferred everything now to January next year and if that doesn’t sale god only knows !! Just wish we could get the cash back but I know that won’t happen - it’s a definite no from us going round the uk

We normally cruise to warmer climates in the winter so a cruise around the UK will not be for us. We have two Caribbean transatlantic cruises booked, Arcadia later this year an Ventura in January 2022. We will wait and see what happens although I fear that these will both be replaced with shorter alternatives at a later date.

Our one was on Avalon, which was more expensive than Viking, but looked better. E.g. fewer passengers on the same sized ship, more included etc.Manoverboard wrote: ↑04 Mar 2021, 12:20We did just the one Saga trip on a Riverboat and it was rubbish compared to Viking which is of course far more expensive.
Until recently Saga have used chartered ships, so all it not entirely in their control. They have now built Spirit of the Rhine so it will be interesting to see how that is priced and how it compares to the others.
I think you will like it. Compared to other ships Spirit of Discovery (and her sister Spirit of Adventure) is small in passenger numbers but not small in space.Manoverboard wrote: ↑04 Mar 2021, 12:20Based on reviews on here I would deffo book a Saga cruise on one of their new ships but only because we prefer small ships for the smaller Ports.
She has 999 passengers in 58,250 gross tonnes.
Compared to Azamara Pursuit (formerly Adonia), which is 702 pax and 30,277 GT, that is only 42% more pax in almost twice the space.
And compared to Piano Land (formerly Oriana), which is 1822 pax and 69,000 GT, that is 54% of the pax in 84% of the space.
She felt very uncrowded.

I am getting slightly less optimistic for September
Fingers still crossed.
Failing that and assuming most places will be open a HOHO around the British Isles might stir a little bit of interest for us.
